9. I am a UK grad....

I attended during the 70's when the campus was a very liberal and radical place. It is still a very liberal institution. I am pleased to see the campus police take this seriously, and that the majority of students are appalled at this behavior. Unfortunately, this situation is not an isolated one; this happens all over the country. Racism is not a thing of the past, as much as we would hope it would become. Someone mentioned this idiot was a possible Rand Paul supporter. I wouldn't doubt it. It is people like him who perpetuate racism and give people the license to behave this way.

Basketball is the big sport which has a huge number of African American players, especially Kentucky with Calipari recuriting very talented black palyers. Then again wasn't UK the university where Adolph Rupp had the all white starters against Texas Western College where their starting line up consisted of all black players, a first in the nation at that time.

What a great memory you have, the UK-Texas Western Game was in 1966, forty-five years ago. I was very, very young then but I remember the game because so many people were so upset, not that KY lost to a team of black player...just that KY lost.

Things were certainly different everywhere at that time. The Texas Western team certainly was an exception team (they whipped our butts) and helped pave the way for blacks to succeed in sports. However, under Adolph Rupp, KY had it's first black basketball player...Tom Payne. Payne didn't do well in life but he certainly had an impact on UK.

I see you live in Miami, I lived there from 1996 to 2006. Miss some friends and the New York, New York deli in Kendall...don't miss much else...especially the hurricanes. Wilma did me in. Good luck this season!!!1

12. Thanks, I have to admit

I am an old soul in a younger body. I am 29 but enjoy learning about history and such. I loved everything from sports to movies to television back then. I am trying to get out of here as soon as possible and am graduating soon as I am in the middle of a career change. Miami has great weather in the winter, very hot in the summer, but I have come to terms I can tolerate a cooler climate if it allows me a decent cost of loving and decent career.

I am at 7 years in Miami come August and hope to be out before the 10 year span in which you lived. I was raised in Maine in the country and enjoy space, I've always said jokingly to friends that I will live in Boise, ID if it meant having a decent home with space rather then paying enormous amounts of money either to rent or own in Miami for a tiny place. I did my fair share of partying when I first moved here and I'm over it.

15. The spelling of the word is irrelevant.

Some use the "n-word", or "n****r" because various websites and blogs will block it otherwise.

The REAL point however, is that the racists remain PISSED that they can not SAY the word nigger OUT LOUD, in public, and not be called out for doing so. That is the real issue.

See, racists used to be able to use that word in any situation to minimize, marginalize, and dehumanize, African Americans. And there was ZERO repercussions for doing so. That word, when spoken, gave them POWER.

And they are pissed that that power has been taken from them.

That is probably why this sign appeared as it did. Their anger is not about how one SPELLS that word ... its that they can no longer call a black person a nigger to their face and get away with it.

Bottom line ... the right wing racists have been censoring themselves for years, using that word only in private conversations, for about 3 decades, and it pisses them off to this day, that they can't use it freely in public, screaming it any which ever African American they choose.
