Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse asks, 'Why spurn a victory in hand?'

"The president and vice president pointed out that you take your victories when you can and nothing prevents you from fighting on for the things you believe should have been achieved," said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I. "But why spurn a victory in hand?"

"There was frustration and angst," Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., a leading liberal, said after the meeting at the White House. "Everybody has things they want, and they didn't all get what they want and that includes me, big-time."

But Obama got their attention, said Rockefeller, describing a health care remake to cover tens of millions now uninsured as "the biggest thing since Social Security."

"It's hard to ignore that," Rockefeller said.

2. The biggest giveaway to the insurance industry ever.
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 12:33 PM by BlueIdaho
That's all this is. Don't buy the crap the congress critters are peddling now. They've been given their marching orders. Put some lipstick on this pig and sell it. Pass ANYTHING so you can help save the President's face.

4. Dean said to kill the bill and come
back and try again in 2010 but he also said he thought the Dems would lose in 2010 so riddle me this?

Thanks Senator Whitehouse.

12. I don't have an ounce of respect for anyone who is primarily concerned over their "re-election".
Fuck that.

I want representation, and I don't
care WHO provides it.

The MAJORITY of people in this country
support some form of a National Health Care Program.

We are not going to get it with this bill.

All it will do is raise costs and then we WILL lose seats in 2010.

...there are now only two real Democrats left in the Senate: Dennis Kucinich, who isn't in the Senate, and Bernie Sanders, who's not a Democrat.

7. If passed it will be a victory .... for the health insurance industry and Big Pharma

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse: "nothing prevents you from fighting on for the things you believe should have been achieved"

Why did Whitehouse fail to fight for those "things" this time around?

Answer: The millions given to Senator Whitehouse and other members of Congress by the health care industry!

15. This is not health care reform, it's a subsidy bill for big insurance.
By the time the thing kicks in, a policy is going to be so expensive - because big insurance has been so emboldened - that the subsidies now proposed will be meaningless. This bill is going to cause more uninsured, not less.

18. What horseshit. Oh, I forgot--
Social Security actually started with a mandate to invest in the stock market for retirement or get fined by the IRS. They were considering a small "public retirement option" in addition to that, but they cancelled it. But we still miraculously wound up with a goverment program covering all employees, though. How did that happen? Reconciliation, or what?

19. It's not a victory...it's a giveaway...
And does he seriously think the country or congress are goingt o be ready to go through this fight again in the near future...

All this does is solidify the insurcance companies place as the arbiter of illness...we are literally paying private companies billions of dollars to decide who lives and who dies...

Only in this fucked up country of ours would people take to the streets to protect a system like that...

20. The Bad certainly seems to outweigh Good in this bill.
That the Prez has resorted to scare tactics worthy of Dick Cheney in order to do the hard-sell to the citizenry sends up all sorts of red flags, as well...:(
