President Obama: I'd Fire Afghan Decision Leakers
Also Tells Chip Reid Afghan Decision Still Weeks Off; Speaks About Sarah Palin, and Toll Office Taking on Him

Reid reports the president said it's still several weeks before he makes a decision on how many more troops to send to Afghanistan.

"Afghans are responsible for their own security," Mr. Obama said. "We have to get Pakistan involved in a more effective way. There is a range of things we have to do at this point; it's fine-tuning a strategy that we can be confident we'll be successful. I think that Gen. (Stanley) McChrystal shares the same goal I do, for us to protect homeland, protect our allies and U.S. interests around the world."

Reid says he asked the president if he's as angry as Defense Secretary Robert Gates about all the leaks coming out of his administration about the Afghanistan decision.

"I think I'm angrier than Bob Gates about it," Mr. Obama replied. "We have deliberations in the situation room for a reason; we're making life and death decisions that affect how our troops are able to operate in a theater of war. For people to be releasing info in the course of deliberations is not appropriate."

"A firing offense?" Reid inquired.

"Absolutely," Mr. Obama responded.

2. "Afghans are responsible for their own security". Absolutely.
And they need to be pushed into taking that responsibility. If we wait until they are ready, they will never be ready enough. We can arm them and equip them and they can fight to win and keep their own country if they want it badly enough. If they don't want it more than the Taliban or al Qaeda want Afghanistan, then there is not much we can do for them.

I would love to see Obama personally dump the asses of the leakers. They could do with some humiliation.

4. So if no one gets fired can we assume the leaks were on purpose?

They must have a very short lists of suspects if not. Would like to see them act on this.

6. What was the story that was leaked
That Obama was thinking about sending 40,000 more troops? I'm glad that got leaked. That's the wrong decision. I'm glad we found out so we can voice our disapproval of that idea. We don't want more troops to Afghanistan. If that's your plan, you need to go back to the drawing table and come up with something else, because that one is not acceptable. You need to bring troops home, not send more. So the leak allowed us to let Obama know we don't support that plan.

7. No
The leak was (in the form of a memo by the general) that if he doesn't send 40,000 more troops he would be endangering the lives of the troops that are there and some other similar neocon crap.
