Speaker Boehner: “It’s Not My Job To Tell” Americans That Obama Is Not A Muslim
Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner appeared on Meet the Press with David Gregory and dismissed the idea that it was somehow his responsibility to stand up to the “ignorance” of some Americans still believing President Obama is a Muslim. Gregory questioned why as Speaker he doesn’t attempt to eliminate such misinformation, yet Boehner did not see that as his role.

Boehner argued “It’s not my job to tell the American people what to think. Our job in Washington is to listen to the American people.” Furthermore, he said he took Obama at his word that he’s a Christian and does believe he was born in Hawaii. However, Boehner stressed, the “American people have the right to think what they want to think.”

2. I'm don't like the wheeper much. Hey Boner still fooling around ?
The story inside the issue cites unnamed "Capitol Hill insiders" and "sources" as saying that the West Chester Republican has twice cheated on his wife, Deborah.

Inquiring minds want to know.

6. from the same people who make constant demands upon moderate Muslims
"They should condemn the fundamentalists! Condemn the terrorists! They should denounce the radicals! They should do this, they should do that, etc."

Then they do these things and it never seems to be enough for the people making these demands.

9. It's not about telling people what to think, you dumb jackass.
It's about making sure people have accurate information upon which to make the decisions about what to think. Tell you what, Mr. Boehner, as long as you choose not to stand up to your party's ignorance, I will choose to believe the rumors that you are screwing around on your wife, and boozing it up every hour on the hour. And, I won't do a damn thing to put down those rumors, either, and I will encourage the President, and every other Democratic official from not doing so, either.

10. Thank you for that comment, we all know,
that sometimes you must fight fire, with fire. What Boner did in his response, was to simply allow the simple minded to keep thinking what they think regardless of whether or not it's based on any logical fact or truth. You are exactly correct ("It's about making sure people have accurate information upon which to make the decisions about what to think".) Boner and others of his ilk want to leave doubt in the minds of their idiot rabble to continue the fear, anger, and division in this country. The Rethugs prefer The Divided States of America. They are so pathetic!

11. I was hoping that Gregory would've asked him something like, "So, you wouldn't say anything
to stop the rumor that you were having an affair? It's not your responsibility to correct people or tell them what to think, right?"

17. Republicans give aid and comfort to "birthers"
Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 08:34 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
I don't honestly believe that most of them truly believe that President Obama is a closet Muslim (which wouldn't be illegal and shouldn't be "scandalous" if he really is one) nor that he isn't a natural born citizen of the US and thus ineligible for continued service as POTUS. I don't believe President Obama's birth certificate is ever going to be the subject of an official Congressional inquiry in the House and certainly not in the Senate.......but, of course, it's politically beneficial for Republicans, even the so-called "moderate" ones, to keep the issue alive and going by hemming and hawing whenever they're confronted directly about it and refusing to "refudiate" (to use Sarah Palin's famous expression) such wild ideas- either that or they're just afraid of the possible repercussions of acknowledging the fact that birthers are essentially nuts just like all of the other fringe conspiracy theorists out there. After all, it's much easier (but more cowardly of them) to just continue to let the birthers keep on going with their foolish crusade and keep them casting votes for Republican candidates year after year. *ugh*
