Just on CNN - in a symbolic step Mubarak resigns as head of the party
Resigned as head of the political party - this does not mean he resigned as President - it is called symbolic as a way to distance himself from the corruption. His son also resigned.
Secretary General of the party also resigned.

It is a way to send the message that HE is not guilty of corruption, it is those around him.

...denying that pro-Mubarak INterior Ministry and PArty members were behind the attacks on the protesters and the Media?

4. They were wrong. It was his son and others:
CAIRO – The top leadership body of Egypt's ruling party resigned Saturday, including the president's son, but the regime appeared to be digging in its heels, calculating that it can ride out street demonstrations and keep President Hosni Mubarak in office.
