Jelly Belly sponsored Reagan (image) Rose Bowl Parade float wins National Trophy
Edited on Mon Jan-03-11 07:04 AM by underpants
The Rose Bowl Parade on Saturday morning had a first. A presidential float was in the lineup this year and it reflected the life and times of Ronald Reagan. The float, definitely a reflection of American history was a winner this morning. The National trophy for best depiction of life in the United States, past, present or future was awarded to the ‘Ronald Reagan: Inspired Freedom, Changed the world.’

The Presidential float, panels of pictures that reflect the life and time of the man who once was a Hollywood Star and went on to be President of the United States, was a big part of the Rose Parade this morning. The float stands over three floors high and every piece of visual art is easily identifiable to anyone who looks at it. From the panels of photographs that are on the sides to the statue that stands on front of the float, this honors our President in a whole new way.

2. But they didn't include the new American homeless Raygun created.
They didn't include the new diet of cat food senior citizens eat because he "reformed" Social Security. They didn't include the overworked and harried middle class whose tax load doubled under Raygun. They didn't include a rich guy pissing on a poor guy to symbolize trickle down economics. But most of all, they failed to include a ray gun to depict the waste of money for his imaginary star wars military program.

Far from accurate, this float is a romanticized version of an incompetent President.

5. No panels depicting guns for hostages, Nancy having to
step in and answer a question for him because of the dementia they were trying to hide, the vegetable known as ketchup, an air traffic controller holding a pink slip, faces of the homeless.....

Lots of missed opportunities. The myth is so far from the reality, it's laughable.

"Clean up after a Bush' indeed. They should all have been jailed for treason in the 90s.

8. Jelly Belly Candy Company is family owned and very rupublican
Herman Rowland, Chairman and CEO at Jelly Belly Candy Company is uber conservative. I would not be surprised if his scion leave the reservation and attempt a Robert Welch - John Birch Society type of thing.

What is it with candy barons?

11. I never cared much for jelly beans.
Now I know why. I saw that float in the parade, and wanted to barf when I saw that it won an award. I didn't know they gave awards for over-the--top jingoism an historical revisionism.
