2012 Electoral Vote Allocation, State-by-State

The numbers below were determined based on which states gained or lost House districts as a result of the 2010 Census numbers. When the number for 2012 is different from the 2008 number, a parenthetical (+) or (-) will follow, denoting the change.

3. it's all about texas
4 more electoral votes there is obviously a big boon for the republicans in the short run.

taking a longer view, the population increase in texas is making the state less and less red.

eventually, republicans won't be able to count on it. even just needing to spend a lot of money there to keep it red will hurt them overall.
