Another homophobic Republican Senator outed as a closeted gay man?
Michael Rogers, an activist who has become famous by outing politicians who hide in the closet while at the same time push for anti-gay legislation, has announced that he has evidence to out another Republican. On December 18th, Rogers posted the following messages on twitter:

“I wonder if Lindsey Graham knows I have pictures of a man who spent the night at his house.”

“Just reached lawyer at home. Meeting set for Tues. on releasing pix of man who spent night at Lindsey Graham's.”

“Lindsey Graham is a current member of our Military. interesting.”

Graham is a Republican Senator from South Carolina. Back in 1996, he voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act making it so that the Federal government cannot legally recognize same-sex marriages. The Human Rights Campaign has given Graham a 0% in each reporting period from 1995-2008, with the exception of 1999, when he received a rating of 9%.

1. I'm not subscribing to rumors.
If true this will ruin Graham's career.

3. I will wait...
and see if any of the "facts" can be upheld.....Is the man who spent the night IDd? I mean...I have had people spend the night at my home, but that doesn't mean we have a sexual relationship. This whole thing may be just so much smoke blowing. I'm not going to get all excited about it yet.

5. Anyone who spends the night at my house is required to have sex with me. It's printed on the doormat
Also, my bumper sticker says, "Cash, Grass or Ass-- nobody rides for free."

I'm kidding.

He hasn't said definitively that they had sex.

13. LOL...
I wouldn't be surprised, though, if a lot of people automatically jump to the conclusion that having a person of the same gender staying at your home, automatically "taints" you with that :hide: label :hide:...

7. Mike Rogers usually backs his stuff up with signed affidavits, etc.
He is careful who he outs and how he does it, because he wants to be credible. If he has a photo, then there's a good chance, he also has some sort of statement from the guy photographed and others as well.

9. Posting "speculative" rumor-generating Twits doesn't foster credibility.
It's a publicity move, pure and simple.

19. Mike Rogers isn't Perez Hilton, ok?
Mike Rogers isn't some gossip columnist.

As you said, Mike Rogers is pretty scrupulous about backing up his assertions. He has, by the way, a excellent record with the people he's outed.

If Mike Rogers says he has has those pictures, he has them. And statements from the photographer and others.

10. I have asked some members of the GLBT community if they had any knowledge of Graham
on this. Some have told me they simply don't care, others have heard rumors of this, but in virtually all of the responses I received, it was made known to me that it should be Graham that makes the decision to out if he is indeed gay; unless he is "caught" like others such as Craig.

I respect that idea, and unless there is concrete proof that Graham is gay, I don't think that speculation should be taken seriously. To be sure, I am no "friend" of Graham, but I think his right to privacy should be a given. I had asked because I was looking for the hypocrisy involved, but I felt I should back down because of the responses I received to my query.

16. Lindsay Graham is a professional homophobe, not some anonymous smalltown teacher
or cop, so the circumstances in his case are somewhat different.

I have no problem with outing him. It's a matter of the community defending itself against a powerful enemy.

20. Yes,
If you don't think Graham was actively fighting, tooth and nail, against DADT repeal, for instance, you're very sadly mistaken.

Lindsey Graham has a 100% anti-gay voting record in the Senate. Damn right he should be outed.

I disagree.

If someone in power is voting against GLBT rights, and they are gay themselves.... then out them.

Obviously this is only if someone has proof.

I feel the same way about preachers who are committing adultery, etc... It's the hypocrisy of someone who holds so much power over others.

11. The Freepers have been saying that Lindsey is gay for ages. Just sayin'. It takes one to know one.
I am reminded of an old Bob Goldwaith bit... too over the top. If you know it ... you know what I mean. ewww!

BTW I worked with him too. But the funniest thing was my conservative engineer didn't know who he was and didn't know how to set the volume right for the microphone with Bob and ... BLAST!!!!!

Really nice guy.

Just like we knew about Sperm Thurmond's black love child for years before it became public. In both cases, nobody really cares.

18. If Lindsay Graham is gay, and I suspect he is, he deserves to be outed.
Normally, I don't agree with publicly outing gays because I think it's a private matter and none of anyone else's business, but when they are an elected official who has been anti-gay on legislative issues while hiding their own sexuality, that's a bit different.

Why no pictures? This reminds me of Larry Flynt who when he wants some publicity will claim he is about to out someone. It never happens.

watching him continuously vote against laws, bills, whatever is sickening. IMHO he MUST be outed to the masses.

http://www.indecisionforever.com/2010/03/05/haggards-law-please-add-it-to-your-lexicon/

Haggard's Law – The likelihood of a person harboring secret desires to engage in sexual and/or romantic activities with members of the same sex is directly proportional to the frequency and volume of said person's vocalized objections to homosexuality.
