Obama gave the republicans the tax cuts, so the democrats could pass the unemployment benefits.
And then the deal got filibustered by his own party.
But what if it was planned like that? What if Obama asked Sanders and the likes to filibuster the deal? What if Obama plans to run out the clock, until the Bush-tax cuts are gone?
What if he gives a public address, apologizing for the debt-increase a successful passage would have meant? What if he apologizes for the partisanship in D.C.? What if he regrets all the partisan vile that accompanied his government? What if he promises to the public, that from now on, there will be neither left nor right ideology in his government? What if he promises to go by the hard numbers from now on, mentioning how foolish it is to discard a successful policy for partisan reasons? What if he promises to learn from the mistakes of the past, promises not to repeat them? What if he mentions in that same speech in the same breath the horrible job-creation record of the Bush-government and it's tax cuts? What if he mentions the CBO-calculations that unemployment benefits are a better economic stimulus than tax-cuts? What if he promises in that same speech a new stimulus program for small businesses to create jobs? What if he mentions, how important the eco-industry and an overhaul of the infrastructure are for the challenges of this new century?
If Obama had the guts to take the fall and declare the new tax cuts being his failure, he could take them back and reframe the debate.
