Steve King calls Obama 'very very urban' on House floor
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/30/republican-calls-obama-ve_n_789723.html

Rep. Steve King, a Republican from Iowa, referred to President Obama as "very, very urban," while charging that as a senator he gave special favor to African American farmers who were victims of government discrimination. In case anybody missed his meaning in a speech on the House floor Monday evening, King emphasized the word "urban," drawing the first syllable out.

King is referring to legislation created to settle what is known as the Pigford case.

King noted that "Bobby Scott of Virginia and others" introduced legislation in the House that would expand the government's responsibility in the settlement; Scott is African American.

King then went on: "Figure this out, Madame Speaker: We have a very, very urban Senator, Barack Obama, who has decided he's going to run for president, and what does he do? He introduces legislation to create a whole new Pigford claim."

21. Very, Very Cowardly Mr. King
I really wish that one of these republican racists would just say what they really mean for once.
Americans know Mr. King really wanted to use the “N” word.
His base of illiterate, ditch diggin’, inbred primitives know Mr. King wanted to use the “N” word.
So what’s the problem?

Is King afraid his donations would suddenly dry up?
Come on, donations to his primitive racist cause would soar because trust me, King's base is teeming with fellow racists.
Is King afraid he’d lost votes?
I know a ton of republicans and every one of them, without exception, uses the “N” word as part of their every day speech.
King would gain thousands of new chimp apostles to his racist cause if he grew a set and said what he really meant for once.

I’m speaking to you now Mr. King; Be a Man Already!
Or at least be your filthy, inbred, antebellum estimations of a man and say what y’all mean for once!

35. Contact Your Representative And Ask Them To Censure King
This is a great site and we all seem to be very angry at King’s vile behavior so let’s band together and show the little racist that Americans don’t cotton to such antebellum behavior.
Use the link below to write to your state Representative (simply plug in your state and your full zip code) and ask them to censure King for his un-American comment.

https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

In the interest of saving you some time I am attaching the letter I sent to my Representative…if you agree with the sentiment feel free to use it.

Dear Representative ------------,
On November 30, 2010 Congressman Steve King, from Iowa’s Fifth Congressional District, referred to President Obama as, and I quote, “very, very, urban.” This was an obvious racist attempt to somehow diminish our President. Thankfully Congressman King didn’t use the word he actually wanted to use but his sentiment was clear.
Earlier this year Congressman King said this about President Obama; “…he has a default mechanism in him that breaks down the side of race, on the side that favors the black person.”
I know that over the past decade our country has become so divided that ignorant comments from both sides often get lost in the 24 hour news cycle cacophony but blatantly racist comments, like those from Congressman King, are both un-American and unacceptable!
Because of this, I am asking you and your fellow Representative, to immediately begin House censure proceedings against Congressman King.
Sincerely,
-----------------

6. Watch. There's going to be someone who will defend King's remarks as not racist.
As for myself, King debases himself by being the racist knuckle-dragger he was meant to be. The disgusting thing about it is that this throw-back to Bull Connor is still in a position to shape policy. His behavior is a spectacular reason why we must fight to fill both Houses of Congress with Dems in 2012.

more moderate and reasonable than the "average" American. It kind of confounds me that this jerk comes from there. Are almost all of the crazies crammed into one Congressional district or something?

Then again, Grassley's become more and more extreme and mean, and just managed to get reelected by a substantial margin himself, statewide. Oh, the powers of incumbency and party-line voting...

25. Sadly, the depth of the urban/rural political divide seems to be growing more and more,
especially taking the results of the most recent midterms into account.

The Dems have the fact that many of the areas that are growing favor us, but that means little if our voters don't turn out.

29. actually, King can't even claim it's urban vs. rural
the African-Americans Obama's decision benefitted were African-American FARMERS. Last time I checked, African-American farmers are just as rural as white farmers are.

13. Geez....is that suppose to turn people off?
Fact: 75% of the population of the U.S. lives within 50 miles of either coast. Those heavily populated areas are mostly urban. If he wants to appeal to the backwoods, inbred, mouth breaters...he can have them.

P.S. No offense to anyone...I lived in rural areas most of my life. A lot of wonderful, nose breathing, intelligent people there.

17. The problem is...
They've brainwashed a large percentage of the public into thinking that the people who live in the "heartland", i.e., rural areas, are the "Real Americans". Anyone who lives in more urban areas are "lesser" citizens, whose opinions count for naught. Countryfolk GOOD, city folk BAD.

39. and when it comes to presidential elections they have more votes
Because of the electoral college rural, less densely populated states have more votes per person than the dense urban ones. The House may be more or less proportional, but every state has two senators, no matter how big. As a Californian, my individual vote counted for less in 2008 than that of someone in Iowa, and considerably less than someone in Alaska.

15. rural us versus urban them as much as dog whisting
the "urban elites" look down on you "real americans" from "the heartland", they can't possibly understand your rectitude and faith in Jesus, and don't care about your problems.

BTW, anywhere that isn't actually IN a big, liberal city is the "heartland". suburbs are "the heartland". you can even live in a conservative city where "urban elites" are minorities. for instance, if you live IN cincinnati or indianapolis, and you're not black, you're not an urban elite. you're a real american.

but if you live in austin, you hate america.

He is just trying to put words to his own mental imagery that apparently comes to mind whenever he imagines our President and thats probably what he sees in his head. Thats how people who are shamelessly racist think.

22. Blatant Racism Has Been The RNC's Strategy Since Day One!
If you’ve been paying attention to the RNC’s strategy since President Obama was elected, we won’t hear another peep from Mr. King for a long, long time.
The RNC will cool it with the blatant racism for a while, then, when the maelstrom from this latest virtual lynching subsides, they’ll trot out another racist from their un-American bench to make another primitive comment in an effort to whoop up their inbred base of white supremacist chimps again!
Has anyone heard a peep out of “First in Treason” South Carolina’s Joe Wilson since his grade school outburst during the President State of the Union speech?
Not really.
This time it was Steve Kings’ turn to embarrass our country and her President.
Who knows what the confederate RNC will trot out next time.
