Give President Obama some credit
He won:

  • The Democratic Primary

  • The Presidential Election

  • Health care reform

  • Wall Street Reform

  • A treaty with Russia

  • A trade deal with India
In other words, he won an entire agenda that has the RW up in arms, threatening repeal and taking court action.

Pretty certain that shows the President can hang tough with the best of them.

2. Ya think??

I just don't understand this place anymore. I used to enjoy coming here to share ideas and feelings. Sometimes just to vent, but I can't take all the negativity any more, and I'm concerned it may be DU's downfall. I come here less and less. It doesn't feel like "home" and family any more. I'd rather expend my energy (in my senior years....72 almost!)fighting against the real enemies, the active right, than deal with fellow Democrats!!! I think we've been deeply infiltrated with non progressives, and spoiled babies that want every thing done their way..the "only way"!! Grow up people...we need to help do some of the work to get to where we want to go!

3. I'll give him two more years, and if he don't......
...think that's enough, I'll give him another four years! I like Obama very much, but, I'm not gay, I'm not poor, and I don't necessarily identify with progressives, so I don't have huge issues. I'm just a plain ole country boy who thinks Obama was the best choice in the last election. My issue was HCR, so I was a Clinton supporter. But, Obama took it on and got something done on it.
It didn't help me out any, but it did help a lot of people get insured that weren't before.

When you stop and think about what this man faced on day one of the presidency, it boggles the mind!

I don't want a president that has an "us vs them" attitude. We had that for eight years. I want a president that governs all, fairly and competently, and that includes trying to compromise as long as it is fair for both sides.

5. This phrase from Rolling Stone has stuck with me because I think it reflects Pres. Obama's uncommon
persistence.

"During his campaign, skeptics warned that Barack Obama was nothing but a "beautiful loser," a progressive purist whose uncompromising idealism would derail his program for change. But as president, Obama has proved to be just the opposite — an ugly winner. Over and over, he has shown himself willing to strike unpalatable political bargains to secure progress...

One person who needs to note this trait in Barack Obama is ... Bibi Netanyahu because it is aiming right at him.

Health Care Reform was one of the issues I think President Obama viewed this way and I think he has the same determination when it comes to Middle East peace even though Bibi & Republicans in Congress are going to do everything they can to undermine him and cut out his legs whenever possible.

6. I can't imagine anyone doing any better in the circumstances
the president is never his own man. If he is he ends up like JFK.

Obama is doing OK - Congress is the problem.

7. the fact that you consider healthcare "reform" one of his "accomplishments"
shows why you and he will NEVER understand why he has stirred up such opposition from his own ranks.

11. PUMAs & freepers will never give Pres. Obama any credit but every poll shows most liberals do.
Edited on Sat Nov-13-10 02:04 PM by ClarkUSA
I am one of those liberals and so is every member of my family and every one of my friends and acquaintances.

In fact, tomorrow, I will be attending a MoveOn Potluck For Progress dinner with dozens of fellow liberals. I anticipate a good time socializing with other pro-Obama OFA/MoveOn activists.

12. I support him overall, but wish he would be more progressive
This country is really hurting and on the brink of ruin. If we haven't already passed the point of no return we might do so very soon. You can't have millions of people out of work and becoming homeless while Washington barely helps. The way things are going it feels like it's dollar short and a day too late for too many Americans.

14. The point of the OP isn't ideology
It's about the President achieving what he set out to do. People can quibble about whether or not he's progressive enough, but that doesn't change that he gets things done.

Now, there are those who insist that he's DLC or Republican lite because of his policies, but how can those same people insist that he's not getting his way?

The President is one man, there are many people in Congress who don't see things his way.

In President Obama's case, somehow his achievements are a sign of weakness. I wonder what people would be saying about him had he failed to get his policy achievements through?

16. But according to some of the detractors here, ANYONE could've done that.
Wonder why they just didn't up and do all of that, then? It's not like they had to contend with an unprecedentedly hostile Congress, Teabaggers, birthers and the "What MORE can you do for me?" crowd on the Left.

What else could be the reason for disparaging/diminishing this President's accomplishments?
