Bernie Saunders: On making SS strong and solvent for the next 75 yrs, Obama has the right solution.
Sanders Statement on Deficit Commission Co-Chairs’ Report
November 10, 2010

“If we are serious about making Social Security strong and solvent for the next 75 years, President Obama has the right solution. On October 14, 2010, he restated a long-held position that the cap on income subject to Social Security payroll taxes, now at $106,800, should be raised. As the president has long stated, it is absurd that billionaires pay the same amount into the system as someone who earns $106,800.

“With the richest people in this country getting richer and the middle class in decline, it is absurd that billionaires pay the same amount into the Social Security system as someone who earns $106,800.”

3. The beginning of the statement,
The Simpson-Bowles deficit reduction plan is extremely disappointing and something that should be vigorously opposed by the American people.

Of course, we know Sanders (not Saunders) agrees with lifting the cap, but this is not the core of this statement. So, when are we going to get a statement that says what the WH thinks of the report written by the two chair they named. Because, until now, I did not hear anything of substance.

'Course the right-wing response is that it wouldn't be fair because benefits are limited.

I'm not a fan of the time limit for edits. If it's your thread, you should be able to edit whenever you want. Sometimes we make mistakes. And sometimes we would like to fix them! :)

18. No he didn't. He praised Obama's consistent stance,
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 07:01 PM by FrenchieCat
and is basically saying that Obama and the Commission don't necessarily have the same ideas
as to what should be done. Some folks are confusing Obama with the commission, and making it
all one in the same, when it ain't.

Plus Ezra Klein states that.....

Here is the most important fact about the proposal released by the co-chairmen of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform: It is not the commission's report. And here is the second most important fact to remember: The commission itself does not have any actual power. So what we're looking at is a discussion draft of a proposal to balance the budget authored by two people who don't have a vote in either the House or the Senate.

24. if 14 of the 18 vote to approve
whatever it is they come up with, it will go to the House for a vote (with NO AMENDMENTS). That has been promised and will happen. It's a matter of whether 14 vote yea, so i'd disagree with Ezra here... it could have a tremendous impact.

22. Obama says one thing then appoints a commission to do the opposite
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 06:41 AM by Dragonfli
Actions not words are important. I agree that that is the solution, so he does know what the solution is, too bad he will not approach the problem this way, but rather seek cover under a commission.

A prediction: he said he does not want to continue tax cuts to the wealthy, but "somehow" he will sign exactly that into law, perhaps even cut the top rates even more.

All of my predictions about what he said about health care and what he would actually do were proven correct.

This one will likely be proven correct as well, but you will ignore it and gaze at your picture of him with love.
