500 Absentee ballots in Palm Beach County not counted
http://www.wptv.com/dpp/news/political/election-supervisor%3A-500-absentee-ballots-in-palm-beach-county-not-counted

Approximately 500 absentee ballot for the General Election were not counted according to Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher. PBC election officials said in a press release that they made this discovery while recounting the close District 6 School Board race between Marcia Andrews and Dean Grossman.

"Unfortunately, what appears to have been human error has resulted in a number of absentee ballots not having been counted," said Bucher in the press release.

The number of uncounted ballots could possibly affect not only the School Board recount, but also the still unofficial results of several other close local races, according to Bucher.

Again, Palm Beach County has voting problems. Now I am reminded why I moved out of this county.

1. In most places absentee ballots are never even counted...
...unless a certain election or amendment is close. Within 2% or less I think.

2. Exactly.
And I think it's a crime. It's these little glitches that the Republicans exploit to a hilt.

4. I don't know about "most places" - but that's not the case in FL
All properly executed absentee ballots are counted.

Except for these 500 it would seem :)

5. ALL valid vote-by-mail ballots are counted in every election in California
They may not be included in late night results, or even Wednesday morning tallies, but they are counted before the county registrars sign off on them and send the certified results to the Secretary of State to sign off on.

The absentee ballots deposited at polling locations are the last to be counted.

6. That's not even legal
All valid votes have to be counted, there's no threshold for when absentees are counted.

7. Correct but...

Once an election's outcome has already been determined there is no priority and sometimes no resources to count thousands of ballots that will not have any affect on the outcome. Unless the media, a candidate's attorney or judge is watching. I've heard several election attorneys state this on TV.
