WH not happy about Pelosi remaining Dem leader?
A reporter traveling with the prez (didn't catch his name; think he's with USAToday) told Tim Farley on POTUS radio today that behind the scenes the WH is not happy that Pelosi wants to continue as Dem leader. He said they're not keen on hearing about "The Obama/Pelosi agenda" for the next two years.

Anyone else catch any reporting on this? Hope it's not true - imo Nancy could teach the WH a thing or two about fighting.

IMO, she has more guts and forcefulness than Obama. I hate saying that but it's true. He needs to get FIERCE and grow a pair.

28. They did - and it was neeed to get enough votes - partially because
there were enough nos in the progressive caucus because they wanted something more progressive. The fact is that Obama/Pelosi and Reid all did what was needed on the abortion issue to pass the bill. There was NEVER an intent to move the status quo from the Hyde amendment in this bill.

7. "The White House does not comment or get involved in leadership elections,"
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 01:34 PM by jaxx
Gibbs told reporters. "But as the president has said before, he appreciates the work of the speaker and the entire House Democratic leadership team, who have been great partners in moving the country forward. He looks forward to working with them in the years to come."

To be clear, Gibbs is saying the president is not going to "get involved" in the leadership race, which is the obvious course he would take since lawmakers are serious about any White House staying out of their internal business. The last thing Obama wants to do is to start dictating to House Democrats whom they should support and look like he's strong-arming them so quickly after a tough election for the party.

But the White House can also send unofficial signals, and in private conversations with Democrats close to the White House, I have gotten the sense that is what the administration is doing by saying warm things about her and not trying to block her effort. These Democrats say that despite the anti-Pelosi feeling out there, the president is very appreciative of the heavy lifting she did for him on health care reform, the stimulus and Wall Street reform.

the wingnuts will go after that person. What's so hard for the Democrats to understand?

It doesn't matter if the Democrat is a Blue Dog or as conservative as Republicans. The Repukes will STILL go after that person, so why not be courageous and keep Nancy Pelosi? She has been an effective leader, much moreso than Reid or Obama!!

It seems when they go looking for analysis, it seems they can find someone with a right-leaning opinion easier than a left one.

But then again, the right has those think tank guys ready to go on the air at the drop of a hat, for anyone that asks.

Just my opinion...you know what that's worth.

Pelosi worked very hard to pass 'Obama's agenda,' and this is the thanks she gets from the White House. I hope this is untrue, Andrea.

I am done supporting Democrats who are indistinguishable from Republicans. We need more Democrats from the 'Democratic Wing' of our party. We can effect real change in this country only if we put the people of this country before the special interests. I'm talking to you, DINO's.

23. But we're always told that liberal, progressive democrats are "unelectable"
Even after Obama proved everyone wrong and pissed the party off in the primaries running as a progressive who would help Main Street vs. Wall St., give us a public option for health care, close Gitmo and end the wars, yadda, yadda...

Obama won in a big way promising America all that and he is going to lose in a big way come 2012 for breaking those promises and/or caving in to the republicans and big business.

What's so funny is that he has played ever so nice with big business, giving them anything they wanted yet they still put all their money behind the republican candidates in the mid-terms and will do so again in 2012.

Of course it's possible that this is true. There is back room dealing, poll taking and shifting of strategy all of the time in every White House.

I heard the same report you did, but I honestly am not sure what to really make of it. It could be completely untrue. It could be someone's idea of floating a trial balloon to see what kind of reaction it gets.

It's the kind of stuff you get this time after an election. Everyone is jockeying for position.

72. We need to let a DLCer be in charge for a change.
I can see why Obama might not like her- she is not center right like all of the rest of the country.

We need someone who can work with the far right. If the far right had gotten more of what they wanted under Pelosi, they would not have gone after us so hard. Tea Party people would have voted with us if we had someone more conservat-err, I mean centrist. But try telling this to those crazy liberals...

Throw off your liberal chains and join us.

Arent you tired of having to defend "values" and "facts"? Dont they weigh around your neck like a millstone?

I can help.

The key is that there ARE NO values or facts that really matter. What matters is what conservatives and swing voters say they think, and whether you can say you think that too.

Free your mind, and centrism will follow. So will victory. Some day.

Join us. In your heart, you know we are Right.

78. Yeah, what the hell...
Values and facts really are a heavy load - why not just go for power for power's sake!

81. Now you are learning how to talk like a WINNER!
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 04:47 PM by Dr Fate
We proved that centrism WINS many, many years ago, back in the 90's.

It is still the winning strategy in this decade too- but we might not be able to tell for a few more years. It's all part of being patient and pragmatic.

The fact the grunge music is making a comeback is no mere coincidence. The 90's are coming back and when they do -LOOK OUT! B/c we know exaclty what strategies worked then, and we know they will work now- or soon.

This will BLINDSIDE the GOP, who have no idea that centrists do whatever they think Clinton might have done in the 90's. Plus, we all remember how they were scared to fight Clinton or take him on- the same will be true now (or really, really soon- I promise) too.
