(in state after state the seemingly unenthusiastic dems lead in early voting--I thought the GOP voters were so enthused they couldnt' wait to vote?)
John Kasich has a razor-thin edge over Gov. Ted Strickland going into the final hours of an expensive, bitterly contested campaign that might wind up as Ohio's closest in 32 years.
Kasich, a Republican, is ahead by 2 points, 49 percent to 47 percent, in the Dispatch Poll. That's less than the mail survey's margin of sampling error - plus or minus 2.3 percentage points - which means Kasich might be up by more than 6 points, or Democrat Strickland could actually be leading by 2 points.
Although Kasich voters are more enthusiastic, Strickland has a 5-point lead among those who say they've already cast an absentee ballot.
Kasich held a 12-point lead and all Republicans were ahead in the Dispatch Poll published Sept. 5. But now more Democrats are saying they are going to vote. The breakdown for the current survey is 42 percent Republican, 40 percent Democratic and 16 percent independent.
