I'm quite frankly waiting for a Republican to introduce a bill making organ donation mandatory. After all, if the government can declare plenipotentiary powers over a living woman's uterus, I can see no reason why they can't plant the Stars and Stripes on some brain-dead hospital patient's internal organs. Maybe we can call it "emminent domain". If Wal-Mart can do it, why not Cousin Billy?

Hell, why not declare sovereignty over the organs of living people while you're at it? Millions of people suffer from kidney failure, why not simply take a kidney from a living person with a biological match? We have two kidneys, we can get by with one. Same with lungs. It's all part of the "pro-life" movement, right? Lots of people are pretty seditary... we don't need two lungs to play "Call of Duty".

Free people from 10 hours a week in dialysis! Wipe out a massively expensive segment of the medical economy! Mandatory kidney donation!

2. Fighting for a woman's sovereignty over her body is also fighing for sovereignty over my body
I don't see why this is so hard for some people to comprehend.

so many things I don't morally believe in but have to pay for, why should they get to choose where their tax dollars go?

It's so wrong on so many levels!

13. You probably won't be surprised to learn
that the RW is highly suspicious of organ donation and transplantation.

I won't go into all the arguments but one is that the medical community (who are notoriously godless) will be more likely to hurry along the donor's death in order to harvest their organs. Remember Terri Shiavo ... the pro-life nutjobs want to keep them alive forever, no matter what.

Another one I find amusing is a belief that the donor's spirit will somehow take over or influence the recipient, so if you get a kidney or a heart from someone who is a criminal, promiscuous, or, god forbid, a liberal, the recipient will start to take on those attributes. This belief apparently originated with bad horror movies that had this storyline. But it makes perfect sense to the majority of US citizens who believe in UFOs and ghosts and reject evolution and global warming.

The librals want to kill grandma for her kidneys? ... you betcha!

14. Not at all
Science is not their friend, after all. They either believe excessivly in Jesus or in Adam Smith, IMO.

Spooky movies are exciting, but c'mon... eating at the same Burger King as Charles Manson isn't going to let his spirit posess you. :-)

28. You know, as a liberal Christian, I know that you can
believe in both Jesus AND science; they aren't mutually exclusive (unless you're a fundie). Just sayin'.

29. Being a fundie gives a person a lot of security, though
You're told what is good and what is bad by somebody in authority who has a direct line with God. You're proof against any attempt at questioning, reality, or logic, and that confidence gives you arrogence against the weak-willed self-doubters.

It's a generalization, but I feel it applies to those in positions of power, those that have influence over their friends and neighbors, or their parishners, or other such people.

one to boggle our minds with.

Aren't things just so ridiculously screwed up?? Health Care... not so much, Womens' Rights, now THAT'S what it's all about!!

I often tell myself things can't get more mixed up or confusing, but you know what? I just LIE A LOT!! Or so it seems. I really don't think HCR is going to be anything like MOST Americans have anticipated!

Kudos to another screw over by BOTH parties on behalf of "we the people!" Don't you just LOVE how much our votes are appreciated and counted on??

Hope this goes seriously viral.

Why do they hate women? Why do they think they own our lady parts?
(The recent article posted here about El Salvador, where abortion is illegal no matter what, and where the uterus police control the medical profession was horrifying and absolutely heartbreaking.)

Oh my god, it is... just....absolute......horror. There is even an underground railroad for women, and thank god for that! oh god, this is what happens when human beings are secondary to ideology. That is the evil that those idiots create, though they blame the devil.

26. Unrelated to the first point, but on the topic of Organ Donation..
as a daughter of a dad who had a Heart Transplant in 1985.. and who has known 3 people who have died on waiting lists for Organ Donors.. I wouldn't have a problem with an "automatic opt in" for all people on Organ Donation.. and you specifically have to opt out if you don't want to donate after you're deceased.

But, that's just my opinion... way to many lives are cut short due to a lack of organs available.
