VULGARIANS
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 01:00 PM by Avalux
That word has been floating around in my head since Garry Wills used it to describe the Tea Party on the Colbert Report the other night. In context, he said William F. Buckley would have used that word. For those of you who didn't catch his appearance, Colbert also asked him if the fledgling party is a racist endeavor and without hesitation Wills said "well of course".

I think the word is quite appropriate; everything these people say and do - vulgar. We have witnessed actions by them that showcase the ugliness of humanity in their violence and intolerance against others. We have seen their dishonest negative ads, seen the vast amounts of questionable money poured into their campaigns and heard them speak with self-righteousness; throwing God's name around to let their followers know they are the chosen ones.

If we think their actions are abhorrent now, wait until they lose.

1. I worry too about what they might do when they lose...
they keep using violence against those who do not think the way they do and they keep talking about violence being a remedy for the loss of elections.

My hope is that they will behave like the cowardly bullies they are and will slink back into their caves and basements after the election.

2. I thought is was an excellent word that fits the teabaggers perfectly.
When WFBuckley Jr died, the IQ of the GOP dropped 30 points.

3. They might not disagree
Historically, "vulgar" meant "common, or ordinary," specifically associated with the common, lower-class man. Something plebian would be vulgar.

4. Perhaps...
I was thinking of the word with these meanings:

vulgarian - a vulgar person (especially someone who makes a vulgar display of wealth)
disagreeable person, unpleasant person - a person who is not pleasant or agreeable
ribald - a ribald person; someone who uses vulgar and offensive language
slob, sloven, slovenly person, pig - a coarse obnoxious person

5. I know, but that is a modern definition
I'm just pointing out that there are multiple definitions for the word.
