FL-GOV POLL: Sink 45, Scott 45. Independents swinging toward Sink.
Poll: Scott and Sink Locked in Dead Heat
The most reliable voters favor GOP candidate, but 'McCollum factor' looms
By: Kenric Ward | Posted: October 22, 2010 4:05 AM

Locked in a furious electoral fight to the finish, Republican Rick Scott and Democrat Alex Sink have pulled dead even in the race for Florida's governorship, a new Sunshine State News Poll shows.

The Oct. 20 survey shows Scott and Sink tied at 45-45, with 8 percent favoring "someone else/other" and 2 percent undecided.

A breakdown of the data offers hope for both candidates, says Jim Lee, president of Voter Survey Service, which conducted the poll of likely voters.

"When you look at respondents who say there's an 'excellent' chance of voting, Scott leads 46-44, compared to the 'good/fair' voters, which is Sink winning 53-26.

"This says to me that Scott is still the favorite, since 95 percent of Republicans have an 'excellent' chance of voting, compared to 89 percent of Democrats," Lee said.

On the other hand, Sunshine State News' nightly tracking poll shows a decided shift toward Sink by independent voters in the past two weeks.

"Comparing their support among independents back to the first tracker on Oct. 6, it shows the movement toward Sink has been with independents from a 45-45 tie on to a 50-35 Sink lead in the current poll -- a 15-point swing," Lee reported.

3. The pollsters have to understand that many of those who actually say there is a good or fair chance
that they will vote actually will vote.

8. You think they don't?
What they also understand is the fewer people will vote than even those who say they are certain to vote.

5. And I believe we can thank The Chamber for that.
Paladino and O'Donnell are mortifying enough. But I think it's the real implications of corporate personhood is what's scaring the independents and ex-loyal Bushies back into the Dems' corner.

6. I cannot believe it's this close! This is ridiculous!! All the elderly in FL
need to wake up and understand that this guy will steal their Medicare and social security.

America needs to wake up, seriously!!!!

9. Scott is using Scare Tacticts
He's blaming Sink for the market collapsing in 2008, and that's why the State of Florida pension fund lost money. He has these seniors talking like it was all Sink's fault. It couldn't be that the market tanked or anything.

He is pure scum. And I can't believe it's this close. He has the "ick" factor and after seeing him in the debate, I feel even more "icky". He refused to answer any questions. If you are running on your so-called business record, then you should be able to answer questions about said record. If people didn't see him for the evasive POS that he is, then they are truly "party" blind.

11. With all the info available on Scott I am flabbergasted it is this close.
Then again, I give polls all the credit they are due.

Honestly, I cannot imagine why any single individual, other than himself, would vote for the guy.

12. Curious...
How many more Floridians are registered Republicans over Dems? Am I reading it right in saying indies are choosing Sink by 15 points more? Is it that there's a much bigger number of GOPers that brings it to a tie? (Sorry, reading numbers aren't my best thing.)

13. The race is close
because Alex Sink is martha Coakley II. She is just not inspring and a horrible speaker Dan Gelber would have wiped the floor with Scott's.

14. something more.
Alex Sink may not "light up a room", but in truth, this is only close because Rick Scott is the opponent. Had the Republicans picked a more mainstream choice that had not lost his job under interesting circumstances and had been not been deposed as much during massive fraud investigations, this race would have been unreachable for any Dem.
