Anti Obama Lunatic attacks School injures 2 Children.
Kelly Elementary School is located two blocks from my house in Carlsbad and is where I go to vote. I was out all day but when I got back home the neighborhood had dozens of cops and two helicopters.

Washington Post has the best report:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/08/AR2010100805678.html
CARLSBAD, Calif. -- A gunman opened fire on a crowded school playground Friday, grazing two young children with bullets before construction workers tackled him, authorities said.

The suspect parked his car around noon, jumped a fence and opened fire as he walked across campus in the north San Diego suburb, said Carlsbad police Lt. Kelly Cain said. The students, ages 6 and 7, were not seriously injured.

The suspect, a man in his 40s or 50s whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Cain said. He is believed to have acted alone.

"He is possibly a transient who lives in the area," Cain said. "He is not cooperating with the investigation. He probably has some mental health issues."

Scott Chandler was repairing a Jet Ski in his driveway when he heard two loud bangs and saw children running and screaming. He ran downhill in his flip-flops and saw several men struggling on the side of the road.

As he approached the crowd, he saw bullets fall out of the suspect's pocket.

"I just started yelling him, 'Why are you shooting kids?'" Chandler said. "His face was in the dirt, his teeth were in the dirt, and he just grunted."

Construction worker Carlos Partida told KGTV-TV that he ran to his truck after he saw the suspect leave the playground.

"I hit him with my truck," he said.

Terry Lynn told KNSD-TV he looked out his window to see a man park his vehicle, jump a fence and fire a .357 Magnum revolver toward a crowd of children.

"He was saying something about the president, he was ranting," Lynn said.

Lynn said he screamed, "No! No!" and rushed to the scene. By the time he arrived, construction workers had tackled the suspect. He helped restrain the man until police arrived.

That street is an old neighborhood and half of the residents are retired Marines. This guy was lucky to only be tackled.

How much you want to bet his favorite newscaster's initials are G B?

1. Hi neighbor, at least in the county
now I am missing this, where does it say this guy was anti obama?

From what I can gather from stories covered, he is oh a tad unbalanced, as in need of medical care... he has not been able to tell the cops WHY he did that.

I am smelling a psych review.

No, not everybody with a gun is a right winger who is anti obama. Some people are just nuts. As in quite possibly the legal term of the definition.

6. Yeah but they have not been able to tell what
as I said, some folks (this one sounds like it) are just plain nuts.

Which could take me into a rant onto mental health and how we really don't have it.

Let me add the obligatory, Thanks Ronald Reagan.

children.

That doesn't sound like a supporter.

We'll see.

Are making pro ranting statements for the President.

The witnesses also said the unidentified suspect was ranting about President Obama when he opened fire at Kelly Elementary School.

46. Right here, in public.
These are the only words I've seen attributed to this guy. Granted, I may have missed the big news because I worked all day, but these are all I've heard:

"Obama told me that the aliens wanted depopulation, and I'm a good soldier!"

Unless these words are included in some comment of larger context, I fail to see how they can be positively construed as those of a drooling Beck follower involved in an anti-Obama rant while shooting at innocent children for some reason driven by right-wing ideology. I can't believe I get called a troll for that. If you think there's an iron-clad argument to be made that the above quote represents anti-Obama sentiment, feel free to enlighten me. I would ask in advance though that said enlightenment not begin with "Well if you don't see it for yourself I can't explain it to you".

When something like the Fort Hood shooting happens, I get the sense that conservatives and right-wingers secretly cross their fingers and hope that the perpetrator is Muslim, and I'm bothered by it. Give them a name like Hasan to chew on, and SURELY this guy is a fanatical Muslim out to kill Americans because he and the rest of them Muslims hate us for our "freedoms". Other side of the coin: Let an eyewitness say "he was ranting about President Obama" and SURELY we'll claim he's a racist lunatic who drools while watching Glenn Beck. In neither case do those making the claim know for sure that their claim is true.

I think we could all agree that this guy has serious mental issues. Let him "rant" about President Obama while he's committing the crazy act though, and suddenly it's almost expected we accept the fact that he's an "anti-Obama lunatic, lest we be called trolls. I see posts that are deleted for calling those with intellectual challenges "retarded". Why aren't I seeing an argument made that those with mental health issues shouldn't be called lunatics? Simple: Because an eyewitness said this guy was "ranting" about President Obama. No double-standard here though; this guy was ranting about President Obama. Drooling Glenn Beck follower that he is...

We turned left and noticed that the traffic wasn't moving the other way.

We thought something had happened on Interstate 5 and backed up the side streets.

We missed it on the radio and when we came home at night all that was left were the TV cameras.

32. Recommended, for a lot of reasons. First, good for those
construction workers who tackled the guy. Hey you elementary-age school kids, think of that a moment -- a group of construction workers tackled a man who fired a gun at your schoolmates.

Also this incident reminds people that the anti-Obama propaganda by the Baggers and the hate-hosts on cable and radio create an environment where outrage is "valid," and that violent expressions of that outrage are "acceptable." That outrage is not valid and it is not acceptable, but it is happening in a climate where hate-hosts are declaring that the President of the United States "hates white people."

And not least, those students and their teachers were minding their own business, and a vital interest it is. The future was being prepared in those classrooms and that is a cultural imperative. One violent ranter firing bullets at the future is what may have happened.

I'm really liking those construction workers this morning.

45. China Suffers Fifth Knife Attack on Students in Two Months
Seven students and two teachers died after a knife attack at a kindergarten in Shaanxi Province, Northwest China, that left 11 other children injured, the latest in a series of violent attacks on schools in China.

Huanmin Wu, 48, entered the privately-run kindergarten in Linchang Village this morning, attacking the students and teachers with a meat cleaver, killing five boys, two girls and a female teacher, according to a statement from Shaanxi's emergency office.

Wu then returned home and killed himself, officials said. His motives were unknown.

Eleven children were hospitalized with at least two reported to be in serious condition.

The attack took place on the outskirts of Hanzhong, an industrial city of about 3.7 million. Hanzhong last week deployed 2,000 police officers and security guards to patrol schools and kindergartens in the wake of a slew school attacks across the country, according to the city's website.

http://abcnews.go.com/International/WorldNews/china-suffers-knife-attack-schoolchildren-months/story?id=10623240

You can take the guns away from the crazies, but how do you keep the crazies away from kids? When you disarm law-abiding people, who do you expect to intervene and stop the attacks? The police? Yeah right. They're only 15 minutes too late.

51. claim that shooter was ranting about the president apparently was not true
There is a reason that the story quoted in the OP and the story linked in the OP are different, with the former containing the report that the shooter was ranting about the President and the linked story not containing that information. Its because, according to the police, the report that the shooter was ranting about the president was false (as were certain other elements of the story as originally reported).

BTW, this isn't a brand new story. This happened on Friday.

54. The guy also allegedly had a beef with AIG, and with State Farm
It's a bit disingenuous to cast him as an "anti-Obama lunatic". He was a general-purpose lunatic; a man with serious mental health problems.

He also had spray-painted the walls of his apartment "with nonsensical writings," Cain said. Some writings indicated "he was mad at State Farm and AIG."...

..."He was a loner as best as we can make out," Cain said. "Records show he had applied for a security guard license, but we didn't find any employer."...

...Neighbors said he was very odd and would often sit at a picnic table sandwiched between two small apartment buildings late at night for hours by himself doing nothing but looking around.

They said they had called police numerous times in the past 18 months because he would make tremendous amounts of noise in his apartment, as if he was hitting things with a baseball bat, one said. But when police would come they said O’Rourke quieted down and wouldn’t let them inside.......
