I will not jump into conclusions regarding this new health care bill compromise with a trigger and no public option. It may work. Who knows? The CBO will socre it soon. I will hold my opinion until then.

That said, I better get that $2,500 reduction in premiums that was promised during the campaign for a typical family (members of the 80% of Americans who have employer-based insurance). I'm not simply walking up to these politicians and demanding those savings. I was them.

CANDIDATE OBAMA: "I will sign a universal health care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family's premium by up to $2,500 a year."

You know what, give me $2000 and I'll probably still be somewhat happy because the promise would have been mostly kept. But no less than that. Don't sell me snake oil.

The previous House plan would have saved us $100-200, which is laughable and would have made President Obama break his promise. At least now there's hope. We may or may not get that $2,500 price decrease. I will post a follow-up once the CBO comes up with numbers.

1. I have no doubt that HCR will end up costing me more
I am okay with this as long as America has less uninsured individuals and Obama scores a victory.

I personally think this bill is awful - but I support and trust Obama and will support him and his decision.

2. And I'd better get the right to declare my unlawfully wedded spouse
a family member.

Damn straight, I'm getting to the age where I'm willing to risk going to jail in protest and contempt of a half-baked non-recognition of a domestic arrangement that takes priority over any state interpretation of conveying the "rights of marriage".

3. Newsflash: Obama is not going to get what he wants through Congress.
This isn't that difficult to understand.

4. When Obama said that, he was really saying, "Please vote for me"

Don't get angry with anyone but yourself about your delusions that electioneering actually means something else besides winning an election.

5. The key words in that statement were "UP TO."
Those two words, which are often used in advertising, serve to render the statement meaningless. If the bill cuts the typical family's premium by just one dollar, Obama's promise will have been kept. However, he did clearly say that the bill will cover every American, and he has since backed off from that promise.
