DeMint Rejects Idea That ‘Government Has To Do Something’

DeMint Rejects Idea That ‘Government Has To Do Something’

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) sealed his status as the right’s standard-bearer when he brought the Senate to a virtual halt this week by threatening to hold all legislation unless it had been preapproved by his office. Though DeMint insisted that this unprecedented move was simply an effort to allow his office to read and consider pending legislation, the senator made his true intentions clear on the “Focal Point” radio program: preventing the government from functioning.

Speaking with host Bryan Fischer, DeMint argued that “this idea that government has to do something is not a good idea.” He then went on to insist that “the less we do, the better”:

FISCHER: Do you think some kind of gridlock is possible and what do you think will happen if that ensues?

DEMINT: Well I had a group of businessmen tell me the other day “if you can just stop the tax increases on us and then have two years of gridlock, that would be the best thing that could happen for business because at least we would know what to expect.” Right now they don’t know what the government is going to do to them next. So this idea that government has to do something is not a good idea. So I think the less we do, the better except maybe to dismantle some of the federal programs that are making it harder for America to be competitive.

DeMint needs a pay cut to zero dollars. In fact, it's clear Republicans don't belong in government.

2. I thought that we are supposed to hate and dislike "people who don't want to work"?
Why aren't people DeMint resigning from government en masse? They were elected to DO A JOB, specifically serving in Congress. If they really don't believe that government should be "doing" anything, then they must not believe that their job is worthwhile and therefore they need to leave government immediately and find some other line of work that they can believe in IMHO. Otherwise, they are basically taking taxpayers money for nothing- and we all know how much people like DeMint supposedly hate so-called "welfare queens" (even though, amazingly, they just filibustered an extension of welfare-to-work). But maybe they're o.k. with "welfare" after all- just as long as people like him (and their wealthy corporate benefactors) are the ones "on the dole"? :eyes:

Why aren't more people upset and outraged about a bunch of people earning (from taxpayers) approximately $100K/year who basically believe that they shouldn't have to actually DO anything? Aren't the "teabaggers" upset about this?

:wtf:

5. DeMint fancies himself the new Newtie. My guess is that he's
really trying for Bitch McConnell's seat (if Rethugs win control of the Senate). In the meantime, he's the Chief Poobah for all the disaffected Teabaggers.
