Moderates Tell Pelosi They Need to Leave Town (blue dogs)

http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/eyeon2010/2010/09/moderates-tell-pelosi-they-nee.html

Endangered House Democrats have to get out of town now -- and not stick around for votes on tax cuts -- if they are going to save their seats, retiring Blue Dog Rep. John Tanner (D-Tenn.) told Democrats at a Caucus meeting Thursday morning.

Tanner, the dean of House moderates who is not seeking a 12th term this fall, told the Caucus that he was speaking for Members who could not speak for themselves, according to a Democratic aide.

"I think probably the best thing to do now is just go home," Tanner said. "None of this that I've heard has any more urgency now than it would in November when we come back."

A sympathetic Democratic aide said the question now is whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) takes Tanner's advice.

Capuano said it shouldn't be too hard. "I want to go home too, but this should be an easy vote," he said. "Put it up on suspension and let people vote for middle-class tax cuts."

-snip-

One former senior Hill aide with close ties to the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition said it would be surprising if there were a vote on tax cuts before the midterms, predicting that Pelosi ultimately would bend to pressure from moderates in competitive races.

the poor blue nitwits who can't see further then the ends of their noses.

we sent them to Wash. to WORK and not to whine 'I want to go home'.

we'd like them to go home and never come back. bunch of pretenders probably filling their pockets in a back room.

7. Let 'em go home...
and have the vote anyway.

Most of them were going to vote against it anyway. That would be in our favor if they left town. That would be another vote the Repubs don't get.

8. This guy needs to go
I understand the need to keep majorities in the house and senate and as much as I might not like blue dogs I understand why we need them in the party. But this Tanner guy needs to go, its one thing to hold conservative beliefs and vote against certain democratic bills, its another thing to try to blow a huge opportunity for the WHOLE party to gain some approval and be put in a better place this November.

Tanner is attempting to force the whole party to punt on the biggest winning issue they have. What I dont get is, doesn't this guy want to be re-elected? Does he not see the obvious support he would recieve for voting on middle class tax cuts?

9. Tanner is retiring, so he's not running for re-election. But ..........
since he has no re-election campaign, why put off the vote.

Personally, I don't have much use for blue-dogs.
