Breathe in , Breathe out..

We get a PO from the house side.. we get extended Medicare from the senate.. you know this could really be very good for us in the final analysis..

Breathe in, Breathe out

9. The conference report will still face a 60 vote test.
The Senate is where the real ball is being played.

14. No doubt, I am optimistic.. that is the reality I work within..
But reality is, we are back to square one, no matter what the outcome of the senate is.. the two houses have to reconcile, someway, somehow..

15. no, no no, we're on like square seven or something....
.... eight maybe even.

I get what you're saying .... but this is a LONG way from square one. And with Howard and Bernie seemingly happy .... I'll take it.

16. The rumor is that Congress may do the ping-pong routine instead of conference committee.
In other words, the Senate bill gets referred directly to the House instead of using a conference committee.

The House can choose to approve it as is, in which case it goes directly to Obama's desk, or they can amend it, in which case they'd ping-pong it back to the Senate, which can approve that version, or amend it and ping-pong it back to the House...

They're claiming that this will get a bill to Obama's desk before Christmas.

17. They certainly seem to be in a hurry dont they?
(not that I mind that)

But why meet until 8pm if you're not planning on being done until January?

Good news I think.

19. I wonder how Nancy Pelosi feels about that?
I assume she would want major influence on the manager's amendment if she is to convince powerful House members to completely abandon the bill they spent the better part of a year creating.

11. Here's something to be outraged over...
.... why doesn't Talking Points Memo have ONE central Twitter account? Or, if they do, why are they making it so hard for me to figure out what it is?

I REFUSE to follow the evil Huffington Empire's Twitter thingy.

13. Agreed - don't panic, stay cool, continue with the activism.
The public option in the Senate was pretty badly watered down, which means trading it for the Medicare buy-in may be a net gain.

I personally think we can extract yet more from the Senate in exchange for losing the public option, such as stronger regulation of private insurance, and maybe more subsidies and capping of out-of-pocket costs.

Stay tuned.
