Obama to visit Pennsylvania after jobs forum

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama will travel to Pennsylvania and other states next month after hosting a White House forum on creating jobs.

The White House said Monday that the Dec. 3 forum will include economists and business owners and executives.

Obama announced plans for the forum earlier this month as the nation's unemployment rate surpassed 10 percent for the first time in decades.

The day after the forum the president will travel to Allentown, Pa., and then to other communities to promote economic growth.

Singer Billy Joel made Allentown synonymous with job losses with a hit song in the early 1980s. But now the former steel-making city's unemployment rate is slightly better than the national average.

7. Allentown wasn't a 'steel city...'
That name belongs to sister city Bethlehem,
whose massive steel factories now house a Sands Casino...

Allentown was a center of small manufacturing,
which floundered with globalization,
and the outsourcing of manufacturing overseas.

Allentown is presently dealing with a flood of
hispanic immigration, and the exit of white middle class
tax base to the suburbs... the plight of many east coast
small cities.
The development of the suburbs and some industry outside
the city is the reason for the up-burp of employment,
and has nothing to do with the city itself.

Curious to where the visit will be, and what the focus
will be.
