We are not going to change their mind. We can only defeat them in an election.

48. So they're deluded into believing irrational crap.
So are many progressives.

And you're wrong..we need to do a lot more than win elections, we actually have to destroy the core bases of their value system and demoralize them. We need to accept that politics is a war and start treating it that way. It means getting your hands dirty and it means losing the naive idealism.

Dukakis, Kerry, and now Obama, are uncomfortable with confrontation, and, as a consequence, the first two never got a first term, and the latter may not get a second!

Sorry, it is. Kumbaya and "Making Love, not War." is for losers and naive children.

Me? I want to kick their teeth in. I think we need to appoint someone to the position of slapping John Boehner in the face everytime the orange man opens his mouth to speak. Carthago delenta est. I'm game for sowing their fields with salt, savaging their family values and taking their childrens' candy.

We need to do are best with best intents, based on what people can think is best ideas.

All will get some things correct, and some things wrong, but if people share ideas, the better ideas will grow, and the worse ones will diminish.

and I know there will be a beer some day.

Ha! I just thought of something.

Proof of Beer some day, even Sam and Frodo sat back and had a beer eventually :) Although that is not a complaint about elven wafers.

to win we need to be nasty, evil, wicked whatever it takes <- that is wrong.

The reason people are that way to you is to get you to be like them, that is what they really are doing, it is not about some economic policy. Greed is so that people will be hurt, then those people hurt will think they have to be greedy or mean or violent.

Bad creates bad. good creates good.

The reason political ads are gossipy and smeary, is to try and get everyone to be that way.

That is why society should not be part of mean stuff, nor respect it. And why there should be base line rules for those that live in greed, and jail for those that hurt people with greed, or other mean ways of treating people.

It is really easy to understand.

That is why Gandhi did not tell people to get violent, but was non violent till enough saw who was on the right side of the issue. Bad side can not handle being shown what they are doing, because most people are more good then bad. Also why deception and hiding is part of bad actions.

9. Hang 'em by their teabags!
I agree that we are not nasty enough, but the censorship here prevents us from being really nasty. Believe you me, I can get into a full fledged flame war here with some of the people whom I suspect are actually teabaggers. I hold myself back, but in real life, I am a rabid republican hater.

I try to explain to everyone how privatization only costs people more in even the short run. If you do anything that's one word different from what's outlined in a contract, they want outrageous amounts of money for what is no more than lifting a pinky. I know this, because I am a civil servant.

If I was to do the job I do in the private sector, I could make 2-3 times more than what I am making now. I don't work in the private sector, because a long, long time ago, I vowed never to work for a corporation. Since 1975 I have only worked for one, which was very small, and only for a year. Other than that, I have worked for cooperatives, mom and pop's, and in the public sector.

as are the personal insults. You posted about privatization, and I responded with my opinion. Arne Duncan's attempt to privatize schools is the most obvious attempt but there are others.

I am against privatization by the republicans (and particularly the tea baggers & libertarians), but also against it when democrats are at the helm. Partisanship does not blind me, as it seems to blind many others here.

18. Your answer.....
...in a nutshell.

"I met a genie who would grant me one wish
"I want to live forever," I said.

"Sorry" said the genie, "I'm not allowed to grant wishes like that!"

"Fine," I said, "I want to die after the Democrats grow some balls!"

"You crafty bastard," said the genie."

Ugly and divisive is productive purely in its' own right. I don't know if you noticed, they can't tear themselves apart fast enough, they're like maenads...you throw gasoline on that shit when it happens in front of you and you call it a gift. Cursed are the peacemakers, they're not worth having as allies.

44. IOW, you aren't doing anything to get the vote out for Dems
You're snarking on DU all day. You're not doing jack shit, otherwise you'd tell me what you say to indy voters to persuade them to vote Dem.

I'll be canvassing tomorrow for local candidates. I'll be talking to low efficacy Dem and indy voters about jobs and clean energy. Sunday I'm canvassing for a Congressional candidate and the script will be about jobs, middle class tax cuts, and reminding them that our opponent is Ben Quayle.

What are you doing besides snarking on DU?

I don't bash Dems. I work for them. I want Dems to win. But when I work for them I expect at least a good faith attempt to enact progressive policies (and to be sure, there have been many accomplishments to that end) and treat me with a modicum of respect.
