1. That Meg is filthy rich and is dumping millions and
millions into a job that pays a slither of that is bad enough, but made worse by the far Right politics that she would represent as California's governor.

I want Jerry Brown to prevail in this, preferably by a unanimous vote count. Absent that, I'd settle for a spirit-crushing landslide.

Whitman is bad news with a fat wallet.

2. It's a rasmussen poll - take it with a gallon of salt
Most people I've talked to (including my fox news loving nephews) are sick of Whitman's ads, sick of seeing her face and hearing her annoying voice.

A lot of people I know, who might otherwise be considered pretty right wing, will vote this November for Prop 19. But they don't seem very enthused about Whitman.

I think she's worn out her welcome.

3. Wow. $119M and counting didn't get her much, did it? Brown spent what? less than $500K so far?

6. Agree. Meg has the huge buy-it-now winery while
Brown has the modest roadside lemonade tand.

But by god that is the best lemonade around.

19. If I were in California, I'd be drinking that "lemonade" and offering it to others.
I hope you're volunteering to sell Brown/"lemonade". ;)

22. No longer a California resident, but was a Brown
supporter in his presidential campaigns. And I surely do miss that state.

And have sent some financial support to both Brown and Boxer.

They're awful good folks and I love 'em.

23. I've sent $$ to both Brown & Boxer too (more to Brown than Boxer 'cause he needs it more).
My OFA group on the East Coast is focused on getting tombstoning Toomey in the PA Senate race. I don't like Joe Sestak much, but if it's one thing I've learned since getting active in politics, it's that sometimes, you have to hold your nose and do what's best for the party.

I feel the same way. :hi:

24. Thank you for the good work against Toomey.
Never liked that guy one iota, and now he just has to be stopped in this Senate race.

Continue to kick butt!

18. Brown has only started campaigning this month.
The unions have put out some ads for him in the past couple weeks.

I think he (wisely) decided to let everyone get good and burnt out on meg-a-bucks and all her ads. It's been non-stop ads all day long, and now she's on all radio stations. You can't escape her. By november, I think a lot of people won't want to see or hear her any more.

21. Smart move. Most voters only begin tuning in after Labor Day.

I live way across the country, so I'll take your word for it. But don't get complacent. The candidate that moves the base to the polls is the one who wins, so I hope all good CA Democrats are volunteering to start GOTV for Brown and Boxer now.

4. The polls are all over the place.
Looking at momentum, I think Whitman has reached a plateau. Since Jerry pretty much just began the campaign in earnest, he's got nowhere else to go but up.

9. I'm concerned that Brown, who should be very well known, is only polling at 42%.
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 11:28 PM by Drunken Irishman
It's a similar situation McCain found himself in and why I never really panicked when polls showed the race tightening in the summer of 2008. The polls tightened, but McCain consistently found himself below 45% and generally when that happens, especially to a candidate who is very well known, it results in an election loss.

Sure enough...

So while the gap has decreased from 8-points to 3 (a great sign), he's gonna need to pull his numbers above 45% or he's toast.

12. As a Californian I am concerned as well
She is bombing him with negative ads which is her only choice of winning. She now is running a commercial with herself as the focus, which is a good thing.

10. With leaners, it's a bit different
Meg Whitman (R) 48%
Jerry Brown (D) 45%

After Labor Day, the leaners count for a bit more. He gained two points after he went on air with a positive ad and now that he's gone on the offensive with his Pinocchio ad, I expect him to pull closer in.

13. The leaners make me feel better...
42% is not a good number to be at, even if you're only three-points down. But 45%, while not great, is infinitely better.
