about that Peter Ozstag guy going against the POTUS
Here is what he said about extending bushes tax cuts:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/07/opinion/07orszag.html?ref=opinion
" Ideally only the middle-class tax cuts would be continued for now. Getting a deal in Congress, though, may require keeping the high-income tax cuts, too. And that would still be worth it."

Now here is how my man John Cole translate that statement:
http://www.balloon-juice.com/2010/09/07/im-not-backing-down/
"Orszag: Look- I spent the last two years busting my hump, seriously cutting into my dating life, to manhandle this disaster of a budget the Republicans left us, and there is no doubt that the deficit can never be addressed without letting the Bush tax cuts expire. But things are such a damned train wreck with the economy that extending the middle-class tax cuts might actually do some short term good. You know and I know that congress is filled with Republican shitheads and blue-dog Democrats, so the only way we might get that done is if we compromise and also extend the tax cuts for the rich. That is a compromise that might be worth it. If I had my way, only the middle-class cuts would continue, but sometimes you have to compromise. Here are a lot of numbers and facts that will make your eyes glaze over."

So stop hyperventilating and wake up to reality. In order for the POTUS to do what you want him to do, give him a congress that will work with him to get shit passes. Its that simple.

5. thanks sista
but it amazes me how the lamestream media will blow shit up and totally not make a comment on all of his accomplishments in 20mnths, The man has done more positive change at this time in his tenure than any other President in recent memory. But all we hear about is crap like that.

10. So, this means he will have to cut it for the middle class. There are not 60 votes
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 05:47 AM by Mass
in the Senate, which means either the tax cuts disappear totally, or he finds a compromise that can get 60 votes. My guess is that there will be a compromise similar to what Orzag is proposing.

2. Fine, but this is the problem as I see it
So you do a 1-2 year extension in the name of "compromise", facing a unified GOP and a bunch of scardey cat Democrat Party Blue Dogs, and because that's the price that has to be paid to keep the middle class taxcuts in place, rather than expiring and going up for everybody.

So now it's late 2011 and 2012, full steam into the 2012 campaign, with Republicans even more stubborn about making the taxcuts for the rich permanent. Does anybody really think that they will just settle for a 1-2 year compromise and then quietly let the taxes for the rich go back up? Please. In addition, you may well have one or both houses under Republican control, increasing the likelihood that they will be in a position to force the issue again right in the thick of a presidential campaign.

8. post is just a translation
of what Peter wrote. It take the post as a worse case scenario kind of thing considering the polarize climate in DC.
Hell Obama's own party is working to bring him down. There are those on DU boasting that they are not going o vote in 2010 because they didn't get what they wanted in HCR.
