What came first? The Negativity peddlers complaining since day One, or the 2010 Elections?
Edited on Sun Sep-05-10 05:48 PM by FrenchieCat
It is my belief that negative criticism throughout this President's first 20 months in office
of everything he has accomplished or dealt with has been given much more time than
the positives that we have experienced be it.....

a very large stimulus passed that saved millions of jobs,
budgets inacted demonstrating priority toward progressive governmental action,
progressive supreme court nominees selected and confirmed,
Stem Cells research put back on the table,
Student loan programs unprivatized,
credit card laws passed to provide us with intelligent consumer information,
large educational money pumped into various states that otherwise wouldn't have,
community colleges funded,
State budget saved via Federal funds,
signing the Tribal Act and Order benefiting Native Americans,
approving an age-old settlement with thousands of Black Farmers,
thousands of Free Clinics established,
passing employment extensions,
hate crime bills signed,
Health Care legislation and Wall street reform passed,
saving the American auto industry,
forcing BP to promise 20 billion dollars for their oil spill,
responsibly bringing the Iraq War to a close as promised with a deadline imposed that will end that war completely,
and even in escalating the Afghanistan Conflict as promised, still imposing a deadline of when we can start to see an end to it,
while getting the world to agree to sanctions against both Iran and N. Korea,
commencing on ME peace in earnest,
speaking out against Arizona's immigration law and then having the justice department do something about it,
commenting forcefully against the hateful hotly propagandized views on Muslims,
and a host of other rarely talked about betterments in this government,
for the good of this nation and its citizens,
and those of the world,

just in the first 20 months of this administration!

Instead, it appears that the negativity peddlers are winning the PR war all over, as they constantly discuss what hasn't happen, discount anything that has, speculate in the negative about anything that might, and intimate that the reasons that Democrats don't care about voting is because this administration hasn't given them anything to be satisfied about over and over again.

I disagree with the view that voters have nothing to be glad that this government did. I just think that there are some who don't want us to ever discuss the positives and so those are swept under the carpet, and are frowned upon in being discussed unless it is about what each of those actions didn't do, as opposed to what they did do.

so my answer is that the negativity peddlers spreading doom without regard
to the positive achievements came first.

The narrative of Republicans taking over Congress came next....before a public option
was in or out of healthcare; before Wall Street regulations had passed, weakened or not as weakened as expected;
before a "death-Panel Cat food commission on Deficit reduction" was formed,
and before progressives decided that insults from Rham or Gibbs should be required
to count as much if not more so than actual issue legislation passed.

Obama's Guantánamo Mistake: He's Not Closing Gitmo the Right Way
January 22, 2009

President Obama is shutting down Guantánamo, but he's doing it the wrong way. I am not talking about the practical matters involved: where to put the detainees, how to prosecute them, whether to send some to other countries, and so forth. Those are all thorny questions, and they must be answered. But there is another dimension to putting an end to Guantánamo that doesn't seem to be getting the attention it deserves, and that is the legal dimension. Obama has issued an executive order -- a directive from the president -- to shut down the prison. That alone is not enough. What Obama must do now is work with Congress to enact a federal statute that outlaws forever the use of Guantánamo as a detention facility.

09/05/2010

http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/national/as-midterm-election-nears-obama-on-shaky-ground/1119363

In other words, according to the negativity peddlers, there is nothing that Barack Obama has done right, ever, and whatever was done was never enough, and he did that on purpose. That narrative is the one that is being presented now to the voting electorate, just 2 months shy of elections that will determine how the census results are dealt with for the next 10 years, whether the Rich will continue to enjoy their tax cuts, and whether this country will continue on the road to repairing itself from the damage left by prior administration....even if slower than some might deem reasonable.

Of course, history will be kinder to this President, as all of the difficulties and nuances of the times we currently live in will be taken into fair account, including the limitations of what one politician can achieve in a polarized nation where the corporate media has a bigger bully pulpit than a President, and where the people, based on past negative experiences have a reasonable rational for not trusting any politician. It will be discussed as to what happened in a society where people have been fed the malarkey that long term problems demand instant solutions, and where too many of us fall for the distraction and the divisions that are created so that we treasure more fighting against each other for no spoils, while leaving the real villains ignored....until they come back with a vengeance and start to reverse everything that 20 months has brought in change thus far.

I believe that at such time that History is written, The President's critics will be seen as over the top and panicked.
I believe that time passing will tell more than anything you will read or see anywhere today.
And for that lone ray of fairness in assessment to come, I am thankful.

1. No doubt the negativity peddlers.
It seems to have become a contest among them as to who can say the most outlandish thing each day. No wonder the papers are going broke.

Since so many folks automatically don't "like" anyone on the Democratic Underground
who support the Democratic President, with his warts and all.

Fortunately, just the fact that I consistently support this President
on many of the issues,
drives some batshit insane.

So thanks! :hi:

5. 2010 elections are in November.
so be prepared to be annoyed to no end till then,
as the truth of what this administration has achieved
becomes louder and clearer than those who'd rather hear
how lousy they have been in remaking the world in 20 months.

Sorry for that.

14. Day One?
Try Day -180. For about six months prior to the 2008 election, there were campaign professionals out there trying to tear down Obama. The Birthers started at about that time, as did the "He's not really a Christian" crowd. Obama as a Socialist? Dates from that era, as well.

Let's face it. The Republicans KNEW that they were going to lose in 2008 and lose big. Give them credit -- they started the 2010 campaign about three years before Election Day, and it's going to pay off for them.

I wish we had their message discipline.

24. Wow. The negativity merchants have been working overtime. Bush was...
without a doubt, the worst president in my lifetime, and he didn't start to get this kind of treatment until the last year of his administration, when he was on the way out. I really think people in the media had been intimidated into silence. Either that, or they actually supported the Bush/Cheney agenda.

Thanks for putting this together, and as sad as it is, that's only a fraction of the negative crap that's been put out there.
