Democratic National Committee raised $11.5 million in July (nearly twice the RNC)

Democratic National Committee raised $11.5 million in July

The Democratic National Committee, which has pledged to spend millions in midterm congressional elections, raised $11.5 million in July, party officials announced today.

The committee started August with $10.8 million cash on hand and had $3.5 million in debt as it heads into November's election.

The Republican National Committee has not yet released its July haul. Reports are due to the Federal Election Commission on Friday.

The DNC has sliced into the fundraising advantage that the RNC traditionally has enjoyed, as the GOP committee has been rocked by infighting and questions about its spending and budgeting practices.

In June, the DNC raised $6.5 million to the RNC's $5.9 million.

TRENDING: RNC quietly files July fundraising report

Posted: August 21st, 2010 01:44 PM ET

From CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart

In the month of July, the RNC raised roughly half of what was raised by its Democratic counterpart.
Washington (CNN) – Without the typical press release, written statement, or comment from one of its officials, the Republican National Committee quietly filed its July fundraising report with the Federal Election Commission Friday night.

The national party committee began the month of July with $10.8 million in cash on hand, according to the report. The RNC also reported that it received $5.5 million in contributions and spent $11.1 million last month. The RNC ended July with $5.2 million in cash on hand and $2.2 million in debt.

Earlier this week CNN reported that the Democratic National Committee raised $11.5 million in July and heads into the fall with nearly $11 million in the bank. The DNC also carries $3.5 million in debt headed into the general election.

1. This is a good start in light of the avalanche of GOP-favored $$$ forthcoming thanks to the SC.

2. Yeah, they can always rely on corporations. Still,
what happened to Republican enthusiasm?

3. What you AREN'T being told.
Unlike the democrats, the republicans are bypassing the usual fundraising through their shadow groups. Karl Rove's crossroads group is now up to 17.6 MILLION raised. Unfortunately, the democrats lack this type of shadow infrastructure and thus, we are likely far behind in fundraising.

But the FEC reports reveal only half of the effort being waged under the American Crossroads umbrella, which includes the Crossroads PAC and a newer, stealthier group called American Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies, or GPS.

Together they have raised $17.6 million through mid-August, spokesman Jonathan Collegio told the Associated Press, though he wouldn’t answer when asked by POLITICO how much was raised by each group.

4. This is not
new, and may be partly responsible for the RNC's financial troubles.

Of course, there is a lot of legitimate fundraising by Democrats

Really?

"Karl Rove's crossroads group is now up to 17.6 MILLION raised"

Obama raised $57 million for the Democratic Party this year alone

"However, you want to present a Ra Ra narrative that shows lack of republican enthusiasm."

What's your narrative: Democrats are in trouble or "Ra Ra" the republicans?

7. Just the facts.
Republican fundraising is likely on equal levels with the democrats this year due to the method the republicans are using.
