economy would be in even worse shape than it is, and who would be buying Fords? I think a lot of people at Ford realize this, from the floor to the boardroom.

14. Ford was lucky ....
A few months before the financial collapse, Ford has secured sufficient private financing so that it was not at threat of "near-term liquidity issues". Basically, they had enough cash on hand to survive without new loans.

With the financial collapse, GM and Chrystler could not secure similar private loans the way Ford had done.

This is what's been hurting small businesses. They often take short term loans to make payroll, etc. But if the bank won't lend you the money short term, you are toast.

This is partially why the Dems in congress are trying to pass legislation so that the government can grant loans to small businesses. The GOP is blocking that because they want those small businesses to go under.

18. Ford didn't need it.
They'd already borrowed enough money months earlier to deal with the downturn.

But the suppliers Ford relies on wouldn't be able to survive with only one auto maker buying from them.

16. Stimulus saved us from a depression.
Some people are too stupid too see what would have happened. Those of us who do, are delighted.

19. I'm gonna guess the 'delighted' people still have a job, are sleeping indoors and eat every day...
and aren't much concerned about the ones not so lucky.

For many people it really is a depression regardless of what GDP is doing.

Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 09:18 AM by mkultra
If a depression hit, hoover towns would be their new home. Besides, if your measure of "bad" is when even a single person is in that condition, then your opinion is worthless on the matter.
