Don't look, birthers: Obama's passport

Here's something new for the birthers to chew over: President Barack Obama's passport. Says he was born in Hawaii! But the White House has strategically fuzzed out certain data, so the mystery continues.

Now, it's his official passport, which means it's new, so the true believers will not be persuaded. Not that they ever would.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/joshgerstein/0810/Dont_look_birthers_Obamas_passport.html?showall

The WH had a little video and was answering a letter if the POTUS passport gets stamped just like any citizen's passport.

18. That's a great link. One song leads to another, now I'm listening to Iz singing "Hawai'i Aloha"

Xipe Totec, I think your new verse fits right in.

3. I understand it's the law, but I don't see why it should be a requirement
that a president is a US BORN citizen anyway.

6. It is more than "the law".
It is a Constitutional requirement. I really don't know what was behind that either. It is interesting, though, that there is some talk that it really does not say that he/she has to be physically born on US soil. "Natural born" may just mean citizen from birth, not NATURALIZED. The SCOTUS has never reviewed the question.

9. I can understand why it would be a requirement that the president
be a citizen, I don't understand why it matters the circumstances under which that citizenship was gained.

13. It was probably the Founders' intent to make sure no president had
divided loyalties. Seems pretty basic to me.

15. Fair enough, but why would this be such a guarantee?
In either case, is it still a valid reason? Someone born in the US might have less appreciation and loyalty to this country than one who struggled to get here and become a citizen. Shouldn't a candidate's loyalty be left to the voters to decide rather than determined by something that a person has no control over?

25. You can really determine a person's loyalties based on the location
of their birth?

16. I believe that issue was of great concern because of the split from Great Britain.
They probably didn't want an influx of British coming over and then getting elected and turning the government back over to England.

20. Agreed...
I do recall that shortly after Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected Governor, there was some ripple about a Constitutional Amendment to repeal that section so that he would be allowed to become president.

The birther comments at the politico link are stunning in their stupidity. Sigh. This doesn't seem to slow them down an iota.

They really are stupid.

What is a "long form birth certificate" anyway, and why don't I or any of my kids have one?

7. Or 'vault copy'. I love that one.
Like there is a huge underground facility full of paper birth certificates.

The morons don't even realize every state stores birth certificates digitally, and a copy is downloaded and printed out when needed.

Like a clerk is going to go to a file cabinet somewhere in a musty basement to look for a forty year-old document.

14. It's a type of birth certificate that some states have, but not Hawaii.
Hawaii used to have a long form and a short form. But years ago -- when the system went electronic -- they switched to one simple computerized form. And that's all anyone gets.

10. Why did they release this? It just legitimizes those morons' "concerns".
Just keep ignoring them, I say. Sure, they haven't gone away, but ignoring them has at least kept them at the very fringes.

19. This is obviously a CIA generated fake ...or if not, it's a bad copy
of someone elses passport...or if it's real, why has he been to Russia so much? Going to get instructions from the Communists? Oh, wait, the commies are gone from Russia now....Um...something is wrong with it, just let me look at it again...

This will be good for them to argue about till 2012, then it will all begin again.

This is Obama's Whitewater, whatever the fuck THAT was about-there are still people moaning about it.
