11. It seemed it was in context when I read it and most others did.
Here is where it's talked about on this site with link to the post on Daily Kos: http://www.democraticunderground.org/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x367995

All within context. I'm sorry to say that I found some of those defending his words were reaching but a few people followed that idea and still said he failed in his point. In my opinion he had no other point and that was his sincere belief.

7. He did.
"I don't want to present myself as some sort of singular figure. I think part of what is different is the times. I do think that, for example, the 1980 election was different. I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it. They felt like with all the excesses of the 60s and the 70s and government had grown and grown but there wasn't much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating. I think he tapped into what people were already feeling. Which is we want clarity, we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing." - Barack Obama, January 14, 2008

4. It's a great article.
And no, it does not praise Reagan. It only points out that both Reagan and FDR used populism to blunt economic downturn, and suggested it as a strategy to mitigate the political fallout of a recessionary economy.
