Obama's remarks are worth a read; he's fired up! :fistbump:

Obama Remarks At DNC Finance Event In Atlanta, Georgia

snip//

I mean, think about it, these are the folks who were behind the steering wheel and drove the car into the ditch. So we’ve had to put on our galoshes, we went down there in the mud, we’ve been pushing, we’ve been shoving. They’ve been standing back, watching, say you’re not moving fast enough, you ain’t doing it right. (Laughter.) Why are you doing it that way? You got some mud on the car. Right? (Applause.)

That’s all right. We don’t need help. We’re just going to keep on pushing. We push, we push. The thing is slipping a little bit, but we stay with it. Finally -- finally -- we get this car out of the ditch, where we’re just right there on the blacktop. We’re about to start driving forward again. They say, hold on, we want the keys back. (Laughter and applause.) You can’t have the keys back -- you don’t know how to drive. (Laughter and applause.) You don’t know how to drive.

And I do want to point out, when you get in your car, when you go forward, what do you do? You put it in “D.” When you want to go back, what do you do? (Laughter.) You put it in “R.” We won’t do want to go into reverse back in the ditch. We want to go forwards. We got to put it in “D.” (Applause.) Can’t have the keys back. (Laughter.)

1. Another speech telling it like it is.
He was great in Detroit too.....

<snip> I want you to remember, though, if some folks had their way, none of this would have been happening. I just want to point that out. Right? I mean this -- this plant -- this plant and your jobs might not exist. There were leaders of the “just say no” crowd in Washington -- they were saying -- oh, standing by the auto industry would guarantee failure. One of them called it “the worst investment you could possibly make.”

3. Read this yesterday and loved it! Morning Joe thinks it's sophomoric--so you know it's good!
Joe has been making fun of it--or trying it. However, Mika loves it! So does John Ridley.

6. I put my car in "1"... then "2"... then "3" ... and so on.
If everybody drove manual transmissions we wouldn't be in this economic and political mess we are in today.
(OK, maybe that's a little bit over-exaggerated... :D)

8. I used to drive only manual shift cars, thinking they were "better" in snow.
Perhaps once long ago they were but that day has passed. I had to give up shifting when it became tiresome to my older legs and thighs. Particularly in stop and go traffic...I remember one horrific trip to Maine where we got stuck in traffic for over an hour. I was REALLY sore...that's when I said "enough!"

Haven't regretted it one bit...now on my second automatic transmissioned car...

10. So do tell us how the rethugs are any better.
That's right, they're infinitely worse. Tell us what they've contributed since Obama got into office.

18. Exactly. That's how propaganda WORKs
We need to quit taking the high road and refusing to play the game. They need to start sending out those "shocking" e-mail thingies as well. Nuance is great, but won't work on the brains that have been American Idolized.

25. Car is heading for a cliff!
The Republicans did not have the power in the last decade to control the economy in the way the Democrats have in the last two years. The Democrats have been in charge of the congress since 2006 - Congress actually "drives the car" as they pass budgets and control spending. The President acts more as the navigator.

So, Democrats have been just as responsible for "putting the car in the ditch." While many would say that we are still in the ditch, let's go with the premise that the President has laid out and the car is back on the road. The road leads to a cliff and we are heading straight for it. So, put it in "D" and drive off the cliff or put it in "R" back up and reassess.

We definitely need a new driver (i.e., Congress) and in a couple of years we can put a new navigator (President) at the helm. Or, we can leave this driver in place and like "Thelma and Louise" hit the gas, while in "D," and head for the cliff. During that drive toward the cliff, our navigator and driver will just keeping trowing our money out of the windows claiming it will stop us from flying off the cliff and crashing!

I for one prefer to reassess. Let's get a new driver that questions the navigators reading of the map. Then, let's get a navigator that can actually read a map. Finally, let's make sure that both the navigator and driver understand that it is not their money that they are throwing out of the window. Further, that money isn't slowing down our progression toward the cliff, nor will it soften our landing!

The least we can do is put it in "N" or "P" and reassess this situation. Let us not go blindly into that good night!

26. Did you go to the wrong site??
The Democrats have been in charge of Congress since 2007 not 2006. And the Republicans were still in the White House. I know it's hard to comprehend, but it's true - nothing but the truth

27. No need to be rude
So the Dems took over the first week of January in '07 - wow that makes you brilliant!! Technically it was "a" republican in the White House, not "Republicans." There, now we've traded insults. Can there be a decent debate or will you start name calling now?

The Republicans in that congress never had the type of majority that the Democrats currently hold. So, they must have had some help from Dems to do all the damage that they are alleged to have done.

The economy did not sink until late '07 or '08. It's not hard to comprehend at all. That's what a spend happy congress and a disappointingly spineless President will do.

But, taking money from the earners and giving it away is not the way to make this country work. Health care run the way that the post office is run or the way the license bureau is run is not the answer. Capping U.S. CO2 emissions while letting China do whatever they want, not a good idea. Pretending that we know that the Earth will be a few degrees warmer in 100 years, when no one can accurately forecast weather more than a couple of days out is troubling as well. Attempting to appease aggressive leaders who then throw it back in your face does not seem to be working as a diplomacy plan.

If you want to rally behind a man who said he was bringing change to Washington, then does nearly everything the same as usual, well go ahead and dream a little dream. Back room deals that give big money to Senators and Congress persons so that they will vote for your plan - now that's change that is not hard to comprehend.

Finally, I guess if one's opinion is not the same as the herd that inhabits this site, then it is not welcome. That is unfortunate. Here I thought freedom of speech was actually guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. But, I guess that is reserved for people who say exactly what you want to hear.
