Steele event with Breitbart postponed
Steele event with Breitbart postponed

The RNC has postponed a fundraiser next month in California that was to feature party chairman Michael Steele alongside Andrew Breitbart.

A finance official with the party emailed donors Friday night to alert them of "a scheduling change" regarding what was billed as the "RNC Election Countdown" and was to take place in Los Angeles between August 12-14. The email, obtained by POLITICO, said it would be rescheduled for September.

Asked if the event featuring the controversial Breitbart would ever actually take place, RNC spokesman Doug Heye would only say: "We are working on scheduling and we fully plan to have another event based on existing trips to California."

The cancellation comes on the same day that Steele, citing food poisoning, backed out of an appearance before a meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists.

After Steele cancelled on the reporters, the group issued a statement noting that Shirley Sherrod had used her own appearance at the conference to announce a lawsuit against Breitbart and that Steele was scheduled to appear with the conservative activist next month.

The NABJ concluded their statement by stating that they had asked an RNC official if there was a connection between Steele's cancellation and the fundraiser next month.

They quote "Special Assistant to the Chairman" Joey Smith as saying: "We don't comment on our finance events and never have."

2. Dear Ms. Sherrod's lawyers,
I don't wanna tell you your bidness.

But, I will suggest that you investigate the link between this upcoming event and Mr. Breitbart's actions toward Ms. Sherrod. I do not think it coincidental that Mr. Breitbart and the RNC scheduled an August fundraiser, so conveniently close to the Sherrod scandal.

Of course, they never assumed it would blow up in their faces.

But, interesting discovery issue--did Breitbart discuss with the RNC the topic of his speech prior to his release of Ms. Sherrod's videotape? Because if he did, then I think you've got a co-defendant. One with deep pockets, and, I'm betting, some very interesting emails.

And let's face it...a deposition of Michael Steele might be, well, revealing.

4. Precisely...they thought they would get away with Sherrod.
I have no doubt that the RNC and Breitbart had prior discussions as to the subject matter that would be discussed at this fundraiser.

Discovery might point up a very interesting trail.

Did Breitbart mention Sherrod by name, or merely that he had a major 'racism in the Obama administration' story? And where the fuck is O'Keefe in all of this?

6. Highly unlikely
He's probably hoping for a big payday once they boot him from his job, but I doubt it'll come since he's been such a disaster for them.
