Ami Bera may be one of the Democrats' hottest congressional prospects this year, but he offered some tough words for his party while visiting Washington today.
"I'm not the candidate of Nancy Pelosi," Bera, a physician from Elk Grove, said in an interview. "If I thought the Democrats were doing the right job in this country with moving forward, I wouldn't be running. I'd be back practicing medicine."
<snip>
"We voted for change in 2008," he said. "We wanted to see something different. And this country is not moving forward. The Democrats haven't taken us there. We're still fighting two wars that we should be pulling out of. And they can't pass a jobs bill. And they can barely get an unemployment bill through. Where's the courage to actually make some difficult decisions? So while I'm grateful for the support of the party, the real thing is neither party is working for us. This election is a referendum on Washington."
