President Obama Says His Daughters Will Soon Be Available for Babysitting
Secret Service (and either Malia or Sasha) to babysit your kid for $10/hr. Not a bad deal!
_______

President Barack Obama is hoping to teach business America some lessons in financial responsibility with the recently passed financial reform bill, but far from Wall Street, he's starting in his own home – with potential babysitting jobs for Malia and Sasha.
Obama says new consumer law is strongest in history.

The president said he's already started explaining the basic concepts of money, savings and interest to his daughters, Malia, 12, and Sasha, 9. He says they're almost old enough where they may be able to "earn some money babysitting," and that they have their own savings accounts.

1. Ha! You'd get a LOT for that $10 - a charming Obama daughter and scads of
Secret Service agents!

2. I can't imagine they'd babysit away from the WH
Then people would start running scenarios about how much it costs to pay for the security detail.

They'll probably let friends bring their kids to the WH.

8. Even better, for $10 an hour your kids get a history lesson and a vacation they'll never forget.
I would do it, but I don't have either spare cash or any kids.

9. I babysat throughout my teens and made just as good money as I would have
working at McDonald's or some place like that. And it facilitated my love for children and into me going to school to be a teacher.
As for not making your kids work when you are wealthy...I think it is not a terrible way to make your kids learn to be responsible.

5. How is babysitting gonna teach them to become hedge fund managers (like Chelsea
Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 12:30 PM by valerief
Clinton)?

I mean, it's not like they're gonna get regular-people jobs when they grow up anyway. They're gonna get privileged-people jobs, which may or may not be working jobs.

Well, at least $10 is a LOT more than many American minimum wage earners are getting. Too bad they couldn't babysit. Tax-free.

I imagine hedge fund managers are out of that ballpark.

11. I'd love that.
But I live in Atlanta.

BTW, $10/hr is pretty much the going rate for sitters these days. That's why we only go out once a month.

19. $10 an hour...
dang, I was born too early! During high school I babysat for 50 cents an hour, and a lot of sitters got paid less than that. Took me over a year to get my first guitar out of layaway. Yeah, I'm old.

31. Yup. As the oldest, I was known as "free child care."
But I made between $7 - $12/hour babysitting for others, and this was in the 90's.
I'm not sure I could get a job that paid that much NOW!
