Jeff Merkley, Junior Senator from Oregon - Link:

He is liberal and very smart, and is not owned by the banks.

1. It's worth considering.
Thanks for the suggestion.

It would probably be best for the 2016 nominee to have no direct connection to the current admin-not anything AGAINST the admin, simply a sense that the voters will want something else by then.

The Western thing would help-it would keep the Coast out of play for the GOP's, thus loosening up funds for us to use elsewhere.

I'd suggest an East Coast Latino-or Latina-as running mate.

3. He may not be owned NOW! But unless he's independently
wealthy, his campaign funds have got to come from somewhere.

4. We elected Jeff for good reasons and it was some hard work
So I'm glad other Democrats are pleased, and I'd like to take a moment to say that Jeff would not be in Washington DC today if not for tireless work on the part of the Democrats in the State of Oregon who did not give in because of a close race, and it was close as can be. A 3% margin of victory. It took several days to declare victory. Everyone who made phone calls or anything that brought in even one extra vote had a serious impact. Gordon Smith the Republican incumbent was replaced by hard working volunteers, and staff, and Jeff himself, who was a wonderful candidate.
I say this to encourage everyone who lives in a State or district with a close race to keep up the volunteer work, the horrible phone banking, all of it. Until the very last day. It matters, it works, it can and does make a difference.
