Racism and the GoP
The GoP doesn't get it. You don't have to sit around and drop the n-bomb all day in order to be racist.

As Melissa Harris-Lacewell said. If you're promoting policies that have a disparate impact on minority communities, you're achieving racist ends.

1. The "Southern Strategy" is an antagonistic policy against people of color and Steele admited the GOP
....used it in the "last decade".

Lacewell has a good observation here, the GOP likes to raise the bar of racism to hatred vs antagonistic dislike makes conservatives feel good.

2. The GOP does get it ...
They have determined that they can use all the loaded code words that they want just so long as they avoid the N-word.

In fact, their current strategy is based on a Rove tactic, take your weakness and claim it is your opponent's weakness.

So what they do is lace their statements with racial over tones HOPING to get a response, and then, they use that response to call YOU a racist.

The GOP's Southern Strategy was created to rile up the racists that the GOP knows it has in its base. They know the racists are there ... they count on it.

6. That's a good explanation of where their "race card" strategy comes from too.
"So what they do is lace their statements with racial over tones HOPING to get a response, and then, they use that response to call YOU a racist."

And when it's black people who specifically call them out on it, they then turn around and accuse that black person of "playing a race card."

Works every time.

4. There are quite a few democrats who don't understand this either
"You don't have to sit around and drop the n-bomb all day in order to be racist."

For many, unless n-bombs and burning crosses are the order of the day, it's not racist. And it's usually white democrats who make those rules and come to those conclusions.

8. This is the calculation that the GOP has made .....
Their dilemma was this ... "How do we activate the racists in our base, while not being OBVIOUSLY racist."

Their decision was to scream RACIST at Obama, Michelle, Holder, Colin Powell, Sotomayer ... etc ... while simultaneously claiming that any time you (as a conservative) oppose Obama, YOU are called a racist.

Rather than hide from race, they made it a key issue ... and claimed racism was not an issue for them, but for Obama.

With that ground work laid, the fill the air with racial code words ... and DARE you to call them racists when they do so.

The racist base goes NUTS ... and gets active ... which was the goal in the first place.
