House Speaker, The Hon. Nancy Pelosi, says: We will keep control of the house. Period!

That's the kind of attitude that makes Nancy my 3rd favourite politician in the country.

Here's what she said:

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/07/15/4683188-pelosi-dems-will-keep-control-of-the-house-period

Domenico Montanaro writes: Not putting a period on the sentence of what's become a five-day story over White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs' comments that Republicans have enough seats in play to have a shot at taking over the House, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put out a defiant fundraising e-mail for the Democrats' House political committee.

"Here is what will happen in November," Pelosi writes. "Democrats will keep control of the House. Period."

OK, then.

She continues: "While some Washington pundits are claiming that Republicans have the momentum, I remain more confident in our chances for victory as long as we have our secret weapon -- you."

The e-mail is pegged to July 25th being 100 days from the fall election.

Here's her full

1. She's a leader, that's what we need leaders to do
I'm glad that Gibbs put it out there to light a fire under Democrats to work twice as hard to be sure we maintain the majority. I also like that Pelosi is showing some confidence, which is also the sort of boost we need.

2. Nancy has ALWAYS been my FAVORITE politican EVER.
I adore her. To the point that my mum actually got, "Who is the speaker of the house?" on her citizenship test and she said right away Ms. Nancy Pelosi. Hah!

4. I love her.
Consider what the 111th Congress has accomplished: a major stimulus bill focused on long-overlooked infrastructure; healthcare insurance reform; repair of the student aid system; credit card reform; more aid to veterans; cash for clunkers; and now Wall Street reform. This is more than any Congress for the last thirty years, and when Democrats go back to the people they can legitimately point out that for the first time in decades, government is trying to actually improve the lives of the people.

And this is only the stuff which passed the Senate. The House passed a great number of things which the Senate has completely ignored. Nancy Pelosi rocks; there's a reason the Republicans all despise her. She's damn good at her job. Best Speaker the country has had in a very long time.

5. We'll have a strong public option, too
Didn't Ms. Pelosi say that too?

6. Let's See If I Got This Right: You're Attacking Pelosi Today After Pleading For Cheney Yesterday
Think I got it.

7. No.
Yesterday I suggested that people not revel in Cheney's pain.

Today I'm suggesting that Ms. Pelosi's pronouncements may not come to pass.

I'm perplexed by your ham-handed attempt to equate these two very different things.

Indeed. Very perplexing. Or maybe not.

8. I didn't think I'd ever say this a few years ago...
several years ago, yes - I loved her back in 2000, and I think she's someone to emulate now. In-between I was frustrated, especially after 2004, but she's more than proven she has some big brass ovaries, and she can LEAD, and I suspect she'll go down in history. If Nancy says it, then I suspect it will happen (these days - yeah, I've definitely changed my tune on Pelosi).

9. House office buildings will be named after her
Like happened with Sam Rayburn. And, the problem is most certainly not with her or the house leadership, it's the conservadems in the senate and the West Wing's incompetent political staff.

10. I think Nancy is right.. but its going to be an ugly battle and there will be casualties..
The Dems could lose 30 seats easily. They will still retain control but it will be much more difficult to pass any legislation the blue dogs dont like.
