(Contrary to What You May Have Heard) "Why Republicans Might Not Take Over the House"

Why Republicans Might Not Take Over the House"

While White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs made the biggest political news over the weekend suggesting that Republicans could win back the House in the fall, First Read list another four reasons why the GOP won't win back the House:

1. Unlike in 1994, Republicans have a favorability rating that's no better -- and sometimes even worse -- than the Democrats

2. Unlike in 1994, the GOP isn't necessarily running on new ideas or even with many new faces.

3. The NRCC has a HUGE financial disadvantage compared with the DCCC and the RNC's political/fundraising troubles won't be able to make up the difference.

4. Winning 39 House seats is a tall order. After all, when Democrats won back the House in 2006 -- during the height of violence in Iraq and after Hurricane Katrina -- they picked up 30 House seats. The GOP will need almost 10 more than that.

1. I like Robert Gibbs.
He throws out the bait and reels them in.

2. Well, that was either a simple answer to a question...
.... which is being blown up more than it should OR (slightly more likely scenario) it was done to wake up apathetic Dem voters.

1. Unemployment
2. The slow response to the oil spill
3. A lot of anger over the healthcare bill
4. Democrats not motivated to vote.

6. The reason the GOP won't take over the HOuse or the Senate--
the people in this country are really not at stupid as the GOP were hoping.

7. The approval of Rethugs is no better then Dems. In 1994, there was a lot of
movement for Rethugs to take over Congress because Dems had been in charge forever, there was the House Banking Scandal, there was the issue of gun rights after the Crime Bill had been passed, there was Clinton's failed attempt at health care reform.

Obama and the Dems have one big thing that is dragging them down this time, and it is the economy. The oil spill just adds to more jobs being lost.
