Where would you rank President Obama?
Among the greatest Presidents of this country, including Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Clinton, where does Obama stand according to you?

1. No where yet and he'd best hurry up
or now where it will stay. Maybe the greatest campaign slogan, but that's about it...

2. Sadly yes...
I have to agree. Though his victory was a progressive step, he has to perform some miracle if he wants to get into the club of the greats.

3. You mean ranking 18 months versus

Presidents who have served 4 years 8 years or 12 years.

Is that really what your asking?

7. He's accomplished more in that 18 months than many did in 8 years.
Stimulus -- you think we're in bad shape now? Imagine what would have happened without it, and it contains some remarkable things that will have an impact for years to come
Affordable Care Act -- something we've waited at least 60 years for
Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
Putting student loans back in the hands of the government, and cutting the banks out of their sweeheart middleman deals.
SCHIP expansion.
Credit card reform
Stopping torture policy of US and reversing stem-cell research restrictions
Nuclear nonproliferation treaties up the wahzoo.

And we're on the verge of getting Financial Regulation laws enacted.

There are certainly dozens of other things as well.

My remembrance of presidents in my lifetime goes back to Kennedy. And I must say, this president has come out swinging. Maybe only Lyndon Johnson got more done, but he had a lot of other problems, too. Given the horrible hand he's been dealt and the toxic political and media climate, I think it's quite remarkable what Obama has accomplished. I count him certainly among the best presidents I've seen in my lifetime. Which is not to say I agree with everything.

5. for sucking up to BP and not moving with all the power of the Government to contain and end this
disaster?

He is really starting to look weak and that pisses me off. I wanted change! I wanted a true progressive who was willing to lead and make waves...not another goddamn corporate yes man.

6.  You are kidding right? You think ANY President with a half term under his belt
deserves to be ranked with those guys? That is just nuts. History will decide at the appropriate time and that will be when his job id complete, whenever that is. What you are asking is like judging a composer for a song he "might" write.

9. I voted for him because I'm sick of war
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 12:27 AM by Downtown Hound
sick of corporations trampling the planet and workers, sick of bigotry, and sick of jingoism.

Not much has changed. And while I am willing to give him time, more and more it looks like not much is going to change. He's determined to waste money and lives in Afghanistan while our schools have no money. He kisses BP's ass and let's them walk over American's rights.

So I wouldn't rank him as all that great. I'd still take him over any Republican.

10. I would not rank Clinton as one of the greatest Presidents... I'll Rank Obama when...
he moves out of the oval office to spend more time giving speeches and making the big bucks.

11. You can't really rank him after 18 months
But i have no doubt that if given 8 years, he'll become one of the greatest.

13. Too early to tell
I really think you need to wait 50 years before you can begin to do so in order to have their years in context of the times and history.

I would rank FDR as the Best with Harry Truman in Second.

Ronald Reagan as the Worst.

14. Middling to low, I think. Not just for what he's done, but for the opportunities he's wasted.
The latter in particular is why I'm so mad at the Obama administration in general. They stood at a transformational moment in American politics, where the political zeitgeist was such that if they had really worked at it, they could have made sweeping changes to better the nation and the world for years, if not decades to come. Instead they pissed it away by doing everything possible to maintain the status quo as much as possible. I don't think we're going to get another chance at a moment like that. I think it's well and truly gone. And that's why I think Obama is a mediocre president at best.

Granted he doesn't have a lot of competition. A lot of our presidents from all parties have been thoroughly useless, and not just in the modern era.

presidents.

16. Clinton was one of the greatest? He did not have even half the challenges Obama has right now.
He had a slight recession which is nothing compared to the economic troubles we have right now. There were not two wars inherited.
Clinton DID manage to balance the budget.

Way too soon to rank Obama.

17. I think rankings are silly.
Different milieu, different issues, different people involved - pah.

I'll stick to specific issues.
