PolitiFact Checks the President's Nuclear Promises
And this is just some of them...

No. 197: Stand down nuclear forces to be reduced under the Moscow Treaty
Obama will "immediately stand down all nuclear forces to be reduced under the Moscow Treaty and urge Russia to do the same."

No. 200: Appoint a White House Coordinator for Nuclear Security
Obama "will appoint a deputy national security advisor to be in charge of coordinating all U.S. programs aimed at reducing the risk of nuclear terrorism and weapons proliferation. This person will work closely with him, the national security adviser, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, and senior officials of the relevant cabinet departments, and will have budgetary oversight over all programs related to nuclear security."

No. 195: Seek verifiable reductions in nuclear stockpiles
"Barack Obama and Joe Biden will seek deep, verifiable reductions in all U.S. and Russian nuclear weapons — whether deployed or non-deployed, whether strategic or non-strategic — and work with other nuclear powers to reduce global stockpiles dramatically by the end of an Obama presidency."

No. 382: Secure nuclear weapons materials in four years
"Will lead a global effort to secure all nuclear weapons materials at vulnerable sites within four years - the most effective way to prevent terrorists from acquiring a nuclear bomb. Barack Obama will fully implement the Lugar-Obama legislation to help our allies detect and stop the smuggling of weapons of mass destruction."

No. 198: Secure ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT)
"The United States has maintained a moratorium on testing since 1992. It signed the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) in 1996, but it has not been ratified yet. Since the U.S. Senate last considered the treaty in 1999, significant progress has been made in our verification capability to detect nuclear explosions, even at extremely low yields, and to ensure confidence in the reliability of our nuclear stockpile without nuclear testing."
/

No. 474: Seek safe disposal of nuclear waste
Will "lead federal efforts to look for a safe, long-term disposal solution based on objective, scientific analysis. In the meantime, Obama will develop requirements to ensure that the waste stored at current reactor sites is contained using the most advanced dry-cask storage technology available. Barack Obama believes that Yucca Mountain is not an option."

But what we will do is, we'll have the negotiations televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents, and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies. And so, that approach, I think is what is going to allow people to stay involved in this process."

3. Your wish to highlight the "Broken" ones is telling
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 09:51 PM by SunsetDreams
Did you read every one of them, or just see that it was "broken", and posted it anyway?
The OP was talking about Nuclear Energy in particular, and you have sidestepped the OP.

While I was reading I noticed a few examples that I question the integrity of:

"No. 221: Double the Peace Corps

"Barack Obama will double the Peace Corps to 16,000 by its 50th anniversary in 2011 and push Congress to fully fund this expansion, with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean."

>>More
Promise Broken"

How can promise be broken already? Isn’t it still 2010?

"No. 339: Support human mission to moon by 2020

Will "endorse the goal of sending human missions to the Moon by 2020, as a precursor in an orderly progression to missions to more distant destinations, including Mars."

>>More
Promise Broken"

That says the year 2020, how can anyone measure it as broken?

Also, many of those Obama does not list a date he will accomplish it by, so I am unsure as to how a promise can be broken.

6. Can't be "broken" till he's out of office....
.. little thing there called "time". The "Time Limit" for a promise should be until you no longer have the ability to keep it.
