While this story has more reason to exist than it would if it were simply a story of a consensual one night stand or a longer relationship, one thing needs to considered.

This anonymous woman has an unsubstantiated story that has received international coverage - google shows over 1,000 stories on this.

Al Gore has built a reputation over 4 decades. He was/is a very serious public servant. He was nearly my last choice in 1988, because he was far too conservative, but I still respected his seriousness and sense of purpose. This story subjects him to ridicule and to contempt by those who believe it. Yet, there is little reason to believe the story is honest. That it comes out soon after the Gores split - which very likely was the CAUSE of the story resurfacing, not the EFFECT as some stories have mentioned.

The obnoxious thing about stories like this is that they tend to have believers even in clearer cases where they are completely denied, not proof exits, and nothing supports it. Here, the ONE thing that the police seem to have completely rejected was that there was credible prove that a crime was committed. To me, that is the important thing both legally for Gore and for all of us who really believe that a woman (or a man) has the right to say "NO" and have it honored.

And she's done everything but scream her name out. Friends have stepped up for her and given secondhand accounts and relased information that would make it easy to figure out who she is. The friends has also claimed she has had severe medical problems (read what you want into that). My guess is her name will eventually come out.
