It's funny, All the wingnuts are suddenly huge Jon Stewart fans
This post has nothing to do with Jon Stewart of the Daily Show.

It has more to do with the political discussions I've had recently on a politically mixed board.

All the sudden Rand Paul type libertarians are recommending that I sit down and watch Jon Stewart clips. " What do you think of Jon Stewart's recent exhaustively researched critiques of Obama?"

So suddenly Jon Stewart is really really brilliant to them.

I find it kind of humorous, to me it show how disingenuous they are. They seem to be salivating over the prospect that I will go all Jon Stewarty and want to stay home in 2010.

They don't seem to understand that I can be critical of Obama's execution on some things without acting all crazy and self-destructive by staying home in 2010.

Anybody else experienced this sudden increase in Jon Stewart fans?

1. They're the same idiots who think Stephen Colbert really IS a right wing host
They're too stupid to recognize satire and parody.

2. They just drool over ANYONE who reinforces their own world view...or at least anyone THEY THINK
reinforces their view. I do not think they are capable of the detailed logic and analysis to know for sure.

They just vomit back whatever their "leaders" tell them.

38. I see a lot of that SAME behavior here
For example: "MANDATORY MALLOY TRUTHSEEKERS CHECK IN!!!", or "Randi Rhodes really nailed that caller!", or "Dennis Kucinich SPEAKS FOR ME!"

No "detailed logic or analysis", just blind parroting of what the above-named entities say, and reinforcement of their world view.

choose between truth and fantasy. it's long past time to bring truth into politics.

6. But do they agree with Stewart's REASONING behind his criticisms?
Because Stewart goes after Obama for generally not doing things progressively enough.

Ask them about that sometime.

7. No of course not. I guess they see him as a "pied piper" who will lead us idiot liberals over
a cliff. there by allowing the true tea bag majority to take their country back.

I sort of feel like this might help explains why conservatives felt no criticism of Bush was acceptable. I'm not guite smart enough to put it all together. Maybe they worried that criticism of Bush meant conservatiives would abandon conservatism.

8. This shit is making me sick to my stomach. I don't care if they are sudden fans.
And no one of conscience should care.

Otherwise both sides are playing the same tribal game with the same basic rule:

Neither side can criticize its own leader, for fear the other side will use it to advantage or get some sort of pleasure out of it.

The only ones who consistently benefit from that bullshit are the leaders. They are now untouchable. Nothing they do can be criticized. Their power grows exponentially.

10. It no different then those here who suddenly hate him
These sorts of people, on both sides, see politics as a sporting event. They care little about the effect of politics on people's lives. They care very little about truth or justice. What they DO care about is that their favorite team and favorite players win.

11. To be sure, we don't need Faux News. MSNBC, Jon Stewart, CNN, NYT...
They all do the bidding of the wingnuts in their salacious attacks on the president. Of course the wingnuts are going to point out any so-called LIBRUL who bashes Obama.

Krugmann, Maher, hell, even Olbermann are wingnut heroes now.

14. But doesn't Jon Stewart frequently attack right-wingers?
And didn't he attack George W. Bush on a daily basis when he was President? Should he praise Obama 100% of the time? What is the adequate percentage? 27%? 39%?

18. Sure he did. And I don't expect him to praise Obama, nor do I expect him to bash wingnuts.
I do, however, expect him to be FAIR in his bashing. I've seen him attack Obama when a thrashing was warranted. Nowadays it seems as though everyone wants to scrutinize and/or criticize every little, minute detail when it comes to Obama. And it's not funny, anymore. This country facing a long list of tragic and daunting challenges right now. I'm not suggesting that NO criticism is necessary, but I am growing more and more frustrated with the M$M in general because it goes out of its way to bash Obama. But to have liberals join in--often co-opting wingnut talking points--is very off-putting.

Everyone thinks they're smarter than those making the decisions.

I fault the president inasmuch as he needs to appear to be less timid and exercise leadership when it comes to this tragedy, e.g., fire Salazar, completely overhaul MMN.

Other than that, I don't know what the president should do and neither do we.

29. He will attack whoever is President, because that's easy for
comedians to do.

Anyone who worships this comedian is pathetic.

Sure he attacked Bush. Bush was an easy laugh. But it was not sincere. It was to get ratings, laughs, and attention.

He got that.

as others have said they are only interested in Stewart because those segments only confirm their own held views. You should ask them what they think of the rest of Stewarts work.

Stewart couldn't make it any clearer, but it is interesting how so many project onto him.

33. At least a politician is an elected leader
Actually it is the other way around - it makes more sense to defend or support (not worship, they are not the same thing in spite of your repetition) a politician you think is generally on your side. Yet i can get more responses by pointing out that a comedian is a person who wants attention and ratings. That's a comedian's job. Not to make serious commentary on anything, politics, or indeed, anything.
