Is McChrystal Trying To Get Fired?
Think about it. If Obama fires him, he escapes any culpability for the inevitable failure of the surge in Afghanistan, and he can rack up huge appearance fees and media appearances as a private citizen whereby he can blame Obama for the "failure" in Afghanistan.

It would explain a lot.

3. Kind of why I like KO's Special Comment
on the subject. It would sort of squelch McChrystal's opportunities for bailing out and doing the talk show circuit.

At first I was emphatic that Obama fire the weasel but there may be some truth to keeping your friends close and your enemies closer in a situation like this.

Does anyone knowif McChrystal can just up and quit if Obama doesn't accept his resignation? I guess if he quit it would just add one more quitter to the list of GOP hopefuls.

4. Of course he is
He gets out of the Afghan mess and on the way out He makes Obama a fool. If I was Obama I would tell him to get his ass back to Afghanistan and do your fucking job.

5. That's one way to look at it. But if it were me, I'd fire his ass.
Mainly b/c I would feel partly responsible by hiring a known bushie in the first place, despite warnings from Tillman and Biden (who warned against this surge.) If he goes or stays, either way the blame for this war will fall on Obama. There are many ways this could be handled, mind you. I get the feeling he's going to stay but won't play a major role in the war.

9. His actions have compromised the entire mission.
It's difficult to see how this profoundly irresponsible behavior will work to his advantage.

Not only should he be fired, he should be disciplined.

10. If He's Fired
He can distance himself from the failure of the Afghanistan surge. He can say that it would have work if Obama hadn't fired me.

It gives him an out.

In addition, he can cash in on huge speaking fees and a book deal as a civilian.
