With all due respect to you Skinner, this is getting really tired. No matter
what President Obama does, it is never good enough for some people on here!

As far as am concerned, President Obama inherited shit and he is trying his best to bring back America to her standing. I am not saying that I agree with everything he does, as far as am concerned, Gitmo should be closed, Afghanistan is escalating and Iraq seems to be a non ending occupation. Just get the hell out of Afghanistan, minerals not withstanding, those are my pet peeves.

Skinner, no matter what rules you try to lay down, they will be violated and here I am saying something which may violate your rules.

Last but not least, lots of my Ops have been deleted!

Peace!

1. I'll ignore most of what you said. However the war in Afghanistan is ending:
And this would also influence the withdrawal of troops in Iraq.

7. Yup.
As for the Gitmo, I'm sure you're aware of what's going on with that. It has to do with Congress and some of the Governor's and Senator's of States who have become obstructionists---this is from Repubs to Dems so he's held back on that. The Iraq withdrawal is under the same time line as Afghanistan.

3. The war in Afghanistan is not necessarily ending
The source is somewhat suspect. And even if the information is accurate, there is a qualifier to the "etched in stone" comment, viz, “July 2011 is the point at which, again, the term ‘responsible drawdown’ of the surge forces begins at a rate to be determined by the conditions” on the ground." That is military gobbledygookese for "The drawdown might not begin if conditions are deemed to be bad".

6. How is the source somewhat suspect? You can find Petraeus' statements on C-SPAN.
That's not the case. Actually Obama said, when he made the decision that a draw down will happen irrespective if it's worse or not. I believe it's Iraq that the drawdown is debatable. However Afghanistan is problematic to control as is. Have you seen the Richard Engels documentary on a group of military men in a section of Afghanistan. Early on when Engels' was first with them they were there because it kept Al Queda from terrorizing the people in the more bustling area. By the end of the documentary and Obama's presidency the troops that were formerly located there were told to leave and you see them blowing up the area. And the conditions were "bad" there. And would be worse if they left. But through recommendation they were told to move out and I think this could have been influenced a bit by Engels' reporting on the situation there.

So...for Afghanistan it's a different matter.

16. Did Petraeus really say "responsibility for the troopers"?
Having been around my share of military people, they do not call soldiers "troopers".

20. I can't remember...I saw most of the discussion.
Military terminology is above me and I wouldn't have noticed it. You can look it up on C-SPAN.

25. I was referring to this article
http://washingtonindependent.com/87265/to-gop-senators-dismay-petraeus-and-flournoy-affirm-july-2011-inflection-point-in-afghan-war

which about "drawing down" forces in Afghanistan and Petraeus talking ahout his "responsibility to the troopers".

10. The war in Afghanistan is not ending.
That July 2011 date is for *some* of the surged troops to start coming home. There is no mention anywhere about the actual number that will leave, about the rate of troops leaving or about a final withdrawal date.

Gates and Rahm have both severely parsed the working on that date.

21. Surprisingly...
It's been said that Rahm was against the expansion of military forces. Now you say Gates and Rahm. In this article above it clearly states HRC and Gates. Not Rahm, I actually don't know what Rahm has to do with this.

And yes you're right that it is a downplay. But you don't have a downgrade in military if you aren't going to eventually either come out or limit the occupation. I saw the Engels' program on this on MSNBC and one of the divisions he was with ended up leaving the region and blowing it up----one that was said was important because it kept AQ from terrorizing the city people. However our guys are out and who many more in the future.

Rule violation. I won't tell you if I am alerting. You should familiarize yourself with the word 'civility' before you chastise.

Edit to not violate another rule.

19. You know, it really isn't a matter of what Obama doing not being good enough,
There are a lot of us who would have been happy if the hits from the Bush administration would simply have stopped.

Instead, if you are an anti-war person, a teacher, pro civil liberties, etc., the hits simply keep on coming. That's simply wrong.

And as far as your OP's being deleted, oh well.
