Gov. Charlie Crist Comes Out In Favor Of Gay Adoption
Having left the GOP behind him, Florida Governor Charlie Crist has come out in favor of allowing gay people to adopt.

In a videotaped interview with Time magazine released Thursday, Crist said he now believes judges should be allowed to decide whether gay men or lesbians can adopt. Florida is the only state in the nation that bans gay men and lesbians from adopting children outright.

“I think probably the best decision maker would be a judge,” Crist said. “Currently, we have a law on the books in Florida though that precludes that from happening. I'm sure that a future Legislature and maybe the next governor might address that issue.”

The governor, who's been the subject of numerous gay rumors himself, also said Thursday that he supports government recognition of gay couples with civil unions, not marriage.

2. Charlie is becoming more of a Democrat...
than some actual Democrats here. Maybe it will get them to stand up for what they believe more firmly.

26. You don't just "move" on all positions
This just means he's a panderer with no true beliefs of his own. He also suddenly became pro-choice a few weeks ago too. What does he really think?

5. This Is So Sweet

We're effectively going to get a free Senate seat thanks to the teabaggers. And, as a bonus, Crist is more progressive than some fake Senate "Democrats."

15. Actually the primary is in August.
Kendrick Meek got a primary opponent at the last minute of qualifying. It's Jeff Greene, a Palm Beach billionaire, who seems a bit over the top. When he got married last year, mike Tyson was his best man. When the Hollywood Madam, Heidi Fleiss was released from prison, she spent a year living in his guest house.

Meek has recently run into some lobbyist scandals involving him and his mother, a former Congresswoman.

Was this guy pretending to be a republican? A shameless opportunist? or the last remaining member of the reasonable republican breed?

10. I think we have to throw Kendrick Meek overboard now
He can't win. He is very lightweight. Would he be the better candidate? Yes, but he has been buried in 3rd place for months, getting no traction.

12. i think he keeps Crist more left than he might go without Meek
in the race.

the polls show that Meek isn't really hurting Crist. so i see nothing wrong with things remaining as they are.

13.  I agree with you, time to stick a fork in Meek.
Meek has run an uninspired and invisible campaign to date. He continues to drop in the polls (now at 14% - Rubio at 31%, and Crist at 42%). He can't move to the middle b/c Crist has already staked that ground. He can't move left b/c he's a DLC type "New Democrat". He's facing a primary challenger with deep pockets. He has ethical questions about him that he hasn't resolved. The DLC backed Fl Dem Party has once again fielded a poor candidate.

16. A friend of mine has a videotape of a high ranking FDP official.
Who appears to be drunk, speaking at a Dem event. She's saying that we have to support Governor Crist, because he's a good Democrat. The tape is about two years old.

18. This makes me like him less
It sounds counter-intuitive, but all this shows me is that he is the kind of individual who is willing to destroy gay families for political advancement. We need less people like this in government, not more.

It's nice he's on the right side of the issue now, but I cannot respect anyone who could idly damage gay families for the sake of his career, and only bother to do the right thing once he figured it'd help him. It speaks to a lack of integrity - or humanity for that matter.

He's a weasel.

21. Charlie has a core value near and dear to his heart; getting the most votes.
"Governor Charlie Crist has said he opposes any change to
Florida's ban on gay adoption. He and other Republican lawmakers
say a traditional family provides the best environment for
children".

as long as he needs our votes.

I don't need principle in my politicians. It's nice, but fear works nearly as well.

Which is fine with me if it appears that the Democratic candidate has no chance of winning.

25. This just means he's a liar with no true beliefs of his own
He either always was for it, or always was against it. Either way, he changed his views when it was in his favor, like now he's also suddenly pro-choice. He's scum. Vote for the Democrat, I had non-True Believers.
