Cox leads GOP gubernatorial candidates; Dillon still tops Dems (MI)
Attorney General Mike Cox leads five Republicans running for governor for the first time since January, according to a poll released today to the Free Press and WXYZ-TV.

The poll by EPIC-MRA of Lansing followed key endorsements Cox won last week from influential Republicans and conservative organizations.

Among Democrats, state House Speaker Andy Dillon extended his lead (34%-24%) over Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero for his party’s nomination, but four in 10 Democrats still haven’t decided who they like.

With six weeks to the Aug. 3 primary, Cox overtook U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra — who had a 12 percentage point lead in a late May EPIC poll — by 2 percentage points, 26% to 24%. Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder trailed with 20%, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard had 16% and state Sen. Tom George had 2%.
