Departing RNC staff chief got $100K payout

The short-lived Republican National Committee chief of staff, Ken McKay, received more than $100,000 when he was fired, according to a report filed with the Federal Election Commission today.

McKay received $62,949 in salary and another $40,967 "housing rembursements" in May -- two months after he was formally fired.

The $102,916 is more than half of McKay's annualized salary. McKay, who resigned in April, was in the job about a year.

McKay was fired, incidentally, for failing to keep a handle on ... spending.

UPDATE: RNC spokesman Doug Heye said he couldn't comment on a personnel matter.
