If Repubs win House - "Issa wants to be ... a subpoena machine in search of White House scandals."
Issa has eye on subpoena team

HERSHEY, Pa.—Rep. Darrell Issa, the conservative firebrand whose specialty is lobbing corruption allegations at the Obama White House, is making plans to hire dozens of subpoena-wielding investigators if Republicans win the House this fall.

The California Republican’s daily denunciations draw cheers from partisans and bookings from cable TV producers. He even bought his own earphone for live shots. But his bombastic style and attention-seeking investigations draw eye rolls from other quarters. Now, he’s making clear he won’t be so easy to shrug off if he becomes chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in 2011.

Issa has told Republican leadership that if he becomes chairman, he wants to roughly double his staff from 40 to between 70 and 80. And he is not subtle about what that means for President Barack Obama.
At a recent speech to Pennsylvania Republicans here, he boasted about what would happen if the GOP wins 39 seats, and he gets the power to subpoena.

“That will make all the difference in the world,” he told 400 applauding party members during a dinner at the chocolate-themed Hershey Lodge. “I won’t use it to have corporate America live in fear that we’re going to subpoena everything. I will use it to get the very information that today the White House is either shredding or not producing.”

In other words, Issa wants to be to the Obama administration what Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.) was to the Clinton administration — a subpoena machine in search of White House scandals.

12. Pathetic is FAILURE to reestablish accountability and the rule of law to pre-Bush norms
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 09:42 AM by depakid
Yes- let's make no mistake, anyone who supports that failure is indeed pathetic. Actually- there are choicer words for it- but I'll stick with yours.

You know what else was pathetic?

Watching this guy a few years back:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_E._Murray

Basically telling Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to fuck off- and then walking away without a second thought, despite multiple violations of federal law (some of which resulted in the deaths of 6 miners and three rescue workers.

And those "regulators" who failed to do their jobs? Still there- still failing- and still not held to account, even after this occurred on Obama's watch- April 5, 2010:

14. Maybe they can Impeach him for "shaking down BP". It wont be hard to get the current
crowd of Republicans to do that over anything they can think of or hear on Fox or Rush. The current Republican Party makes the group Clinton had to deal with look sane and measured. Go ahead and encourage their fishing expeditions, I'm sure it will end well. Remember, Clinton didn't get convicted by the Senate - just Impeached by the House which doesn't exactly require the Country to support it.

The point wasn't investigating serious issues. The point was that they will just try to tie up the government in their made-up scandals - "
a subpoena machine in search of White House scandals
".

"After calling the White House “corrupt” and Obama’s presidency “failed,” Issa reiterated his claims that — despite a contrary assessment from most experts — the administration violated federal law with the Sestak imbroglio."

If you don't think a Republican controlled House will impeach Obama over this kind of normal politics then you haven't been paying attention to the current crop of clowns that make up the House Republicans. These are the folks you want to assist and then don't want us to call you on it.

Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 11:02 AM by depakid
I admire the fact that the guy has the chutzpa to amp up the process- something that the hapless Democrats- who people thumbed their noses at for years, ignoring subpoenas and otherwise disrespected- seem thus far to utterly lack.

From the administration on down to the Senate and Congressional committees.

Was a time when people said- just wait'll we've got our people running the Justice Department... etc.

Well, that time's come and basically gone without a peep.

And no one's the better for it- not in America or abroad.

24. Your "point" is unmissable. You left the US in disgust with Bush and now want to take down Obama.
Your "point" is destruction. You won't be happy until you can do an all-out grave-dance on the complete wreckage of the country you left behind, and as far as you are concerned, that can't happen soon enough.

Kiddo, those of us who remained behind still have a chance at mitigating what Bush-Cheney did. I DON'T think we can EVER completely undo the damage, but we sure as hell won't stand a chance if we participate in destroying Obama.
:grr:

that is NOT who he is planning to go after and if going after Obama for.........what the hell is he going after him for again??? (hint: it has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING Bushco-related I can promise you THAT) should be considered a GOOD thing then well........ I got nothing else to say about that. :banghead:

I'm all for accountability for our public officials when it is needed but it doesn't just apply to Democrats and anybody looking to investigate Democrats and hold them "accountable" but NOT Republicans like Bush, Cheney, et. al is a f****g hypocrite plain and simple!!!

The Repukes have "guts" all right. Chutzpah. Since you admire that more than anything, why don't you just join them?

Then you won't have to complain about all that "weakness." You can just admire the abuses of power. Hey, at least they are "tough."

29. Different party, different rules
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 06:27 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
Big government to help people/improve society and police corporations from destroying the economy and the environment=BAD

Big government to prevent gay people from making a living, getting married, and serving in the armed forces, to prevent people making their own decisions about their own personal family planning and reproductive health, to enforce a theocratic point of view on what is SUPPOSED to be a secular society, to provide corporations with numerous tax cuts/exemptions and allow them to run rampant, to wage endless "wars of choice", and to attempt to use endless frivolous investigations to overturn lawful, democratic elections=GOOD

:eyes:

Bill Maher should really make something like this one of his "rules" (if something like it already isn't)

PARTICULARLY because they've done it once before and are damn near certain to do it again when (or if) they EVER attain a majority in one or both houses of Congress at any point during a DEMOCRATIC Presidency. Democrats would be foolish to avoid running a few ads about this during the midterms to remind people why it's important to vote (and vote to keep the Democrats in power regardless of how weak, spineless, etc. some of them might be).

President Obama has missed SO many chances.

The Republicans were dead and in the ground. A few shovels of dirt and we could have closed the book on them.

Instead, they are alive, well, and now have the potential to throw an even bigger monkeywrench in the WH's operations.

I wonder who the next Monica Lewinsky will be?

Because I warned people about this SPECIFICALLY(among other things). I'm far from the only one, either.

President Obama choose not to do the right thing, and in fact told us to shut up, that he knew what he was doing.

That warrants popcorn, IMO.

I believe that he lost the opportunity to break the stranglehold that the crooks on Wall Street had on the economy and he should have never, never, compromised with the Health Care Insurance Bastards. When you get a Republican down you kick the shit out of them.
